Absolutely brilliant film. As a huge fan of Elizabeth Bishops poetry, I had much hoped for a biopic on her life. I honestly didn't expect one to be made. Fantastic acting from the best of Brasilian, American and Australian film industries. I was pleased the film made use of both English and Brasilian Portuguese languages. The story line was very accurate to the life of Elizabeth Bishop, as can be considering the book it was based on was a fictionalised account (as stated by the author) of Bishop's life in Brasil. Of course with virtually no recorded evidence it can on by surmised about the lives lived by these people. Having read many biographies on Bishop this all seems very accurate to this important period of her life spent in Brasil and the life long connections she made there. Not to mention the massive influence this had on her works. Much recommended for film and poetry fans alike.

Really enjoyed this film. It was well acted with interesting characters. There was a bit of a strange relationship set up between the three women but what I thought was going to be a predictable film wasn't. A sad ending but a beautifully told story about two woman who fall in love set in beautiful landscapes.

Very well done, well researched. One comes away with the need to read all of Elizabeth Bishops work.

Fantastic film, with a sad ending. Truly a beautiful love story, ok so it gets a little turbulent at times but its beautiful. But like all true and beautiful love storys, they have to come to an end just like this one unfortunatey did. Well worth the watch just prepare yourself. X

A good film but was expecting more from it. Found it a bit drawn out in places. All the cast were good. However, I found Gloria Pires performance as Lota de Macedo Soares particularly engaging and compelling

It is a fine piece of art, delicate touches, a bit cold though

This film was a little slow to start, but after the initial first few scenes, the film started to come into its own. The two leading ladies worked well together & actually made the film work, it was heartwarming & sensitive, & had a really good storyline. The ending was a surprise in its self & a little heart rendering. All in all it was a very good film & would recommend it, if only to see the Brazillian scenery.
