5.0 out of 5 stars Fan Fiction At Its Finest, 25 Jan 2014

I think Michael Bunker may have broken some sort of speed record for writing a fan fiction story. Either that or he has mastered time travel (this is entirely possible) because the level of which he has not only read but completely absorbed Hugh Howey's Sand and created the first fan fiction piece based on the book is astounding. I've only recently delved in to fan fiction (a Wool fan fiction story by Patrice Fitzgerald, "Karma Of The Silo" - also highly recommended), but I'm starting to realise the quality of some of the work being created is top class.
Capturing and recreating the intensity of Sand's core themes not to mention its style and imagery is no mean feat. Hugh Howey created a unique world here and it's not one to be trifled with by amateurs or they will end up engulfed by the sand like an amateur diver. Happily, Michael Bunker has not only the credentials, but the experience to do an amazing job here.
A standalone short story which takes place shortly after the events of Sand, Dunes Over Danvar focuses on the race to find the lost city following two very different characters and their perilous experiences in search of the untold riches awaiting deep underground. It's a fast-paced story which packs in a huge amount of action and, like any good short story should, still manages to get it's point across competently without resorting to the usual clichés associated with the genre.
So if you enjoyed Sand as much as I did, grab your ker, hoist your sarfer sail and dive in .
Just don't forget to breathe.

A great fan fiction book based in Hugh Howeys world of Sand. I first came across Michael Bunker when he wrote a book based in Hugh Howeys Wool Trilogy world & this one certainly doesn't disappoint. If you've read Sand & have never given fan fiction a go, read this book & then look up Michael Bunkers other works.
High recommended
