5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic kids car with loads of potential!, 21 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Kids Ride On - 12V Sports Saloon (White) New 2014 Model (Toy)
We got this car for our 2 year old son, here are a few first impressions of why I think we made a great choice.

It's a new 2014 model which means its slightly tweaked and refined over previous generic models and comes with a new facelift. It seems to be a debadged cross between an Audi and Bentley. It comes with dual speed gear box which can operate at either 6v (slow speed) or 12v (fast speed) modes. It comes semi assembled which is a good thing since the generic instructions aren't very useful. But we got there in the end, only having to figure out how to attach the wheels, wheel caps, motors, side mirrors, steering wheel, windshield and rear spoiler which in hindsight are all self explanatory. It was easier than I first thought and overall took about an hour, could have done it in less time had it not been for our over enthusiastic little one trying to assist daddy with the assembly and running away with some parts.

The finished product actually looks fantastic and much better than we had expected. I'll upload a few photos later for anyone interested. Plenty of lights every where, front LEDs, dashboard, rear engine compartment and rear lights. The sound is of decent quality (for a toy car) with plenty of headroom should you wish to crank up the volume. Along the front dash you have a volume knob, 3.5mm jack input for mp3, iPhones etc, switch for manual or remote (parental) control and a start on/off button with engine start up sound. The steering wheel has a button for horn and another button for the pre-recorded in car entertainment system sounds, not to my tastes but enough to keep the boy entertained. Along the right hand side you conveniently have the gear stick for forward/reverse and the switch for fast/slow speeds which is great since the child doesn't have to stretch too much to reach.

Out of the box it has a few removable stickers reminding you the first charge should last 18 hours to avoid damaging the battery permanently. An important reminder which people should not take lightly. After the first charge I used the car for a short ride then drained the battery by leaving it with the lights on over night, this took ages but it did a good job of fully discharging the battery. All subsequent charges have been for approx 10 hours with a ride time easily averaging well over an hour.

What I like:

Good battery and drive time
Very fast (in fast mode)
Super cool looks with plenty of street cred, the LED lights are fantastic
No tacky stickers
Easily removable number plate sticker (replaced with private plates)
Easy to assemble
Hard plastic wheels have a soft textured rubber centre belt for better traction, grip and smoother drive
Remote control means I could use the remote until child is old enough to drive on his own
User selectable dual speed modes allow one to avoid harsh stop/start when child is younger simply be selecting slow, thus preventing the child from suffering mild whiplash
Child restraint seatbelt ensures safety

Room for improvement:

Should have moulded handles somewhere so adults can more easily carry the car if/when required
The acceleration/deceleration should be smoother to avoid younger children's heads from bouncing (the slow speed mode significantly help reduce this problem)
The seat headrest should be slightly higher to better support the head

We have taken the car out a few times now and both neighbours and random people simply love it. Its a real head turner and we have already had a few enquiries from parents. More importantly my boy just can't get enough of it, upon returning from daycare the first thing he does is jump inside and start pressing all the buttons. Of course since he cant talk yet he will grab our hands and pull us towards the car to say he wants to go out for a drive. So overall its future proofed so should last quite a few years, 9 out of 10 for looks and usability, fantastic service from the supplier and we couldn't be more satisfied with the purchase.

Final additional note, we were a bit apprehensive ordering from amazon market place as we normally prefer to deal direct with Amazon. However, the seller Lounge Time Entertainment sent the item next day with tracking and couldn't be more professional in how they dealt with a delivery issue (courier fault), in fact they went 2 or 3 steps above and beyond to the point of ensuring that not only were the couriers held accountable but that as a customer we were satisfied beyond all expectations. Just thought I should mention this since the only other company that have provided such excellent service is Amazon themselves but it's great to find smaller companies genuinely care as much about their customer service. So yes, deal with them with 100% confidence.
