Just when you thought it was safe to travel by boat!
This daring crossover of the adventures of the mysterious Houdini and the sanity-bending involvements of Lovecraftian horror in bring to fruition a classically eerie and horribly draining tale; pitching our dangerously curious hero and his thoughtful colleague, novelist Dennis Wheatley into a complicated plot that begins, as the best stories do, with Murder!
Soon, via the backdrop of a supporting cast of freaks and the political infightings of the silver screen industry, our pair find themselves relentlessly in pursuit of the mystery, facing things thoroughly out of sorts, with a brooding and increasingly eerie sense that things are beyond their control and comprehension.
Marvellously written; with moments of humour, cleverly-detailed scenes and a few bits of sanity-stretching horror, this is a classically crafted piece of dark fiction that tingles the spine.
