This book must be read after reading the first one, The Lavender Keeper. I hadn't heard of Fiona McIntosh until I read the recommendations on Amazon. I thought that sounded the sort of book I like. When I started The lavender Keeper I thought an SOE agent wouldn't act like that, but when I got further into the book I enjoyed it.
The French Promise, is a follow up. Just as good as the first. I won't give anything away, but half way through the author does something unexpected and I had to leave off reading it for a couple of days!
The author sometimes puts in hints of what is to come. Her research is good and gives a good insight into what life was like in France, particularly Paris, during the war.
Incidentally I do wish reviewers wouldn't give too much away. Unfortunately I found out the ending of the first book before I had finished it which spoilt it a bit.
