Cleaning the unit is a nightmare!
on 19 May 2015
On the plus side this handheld goes a great job of picking up hairs. My daughter and I both have long hair and the handheld gets it up no problem. My Dyson could not pick up the hairs at all and when I emptied the 'bag' after going over the a rug I was surprised to see what the Dyson doesn't pick up. This is about the only positives.
The negatives are many. The unit is too heavy. I am not a small lady and I have to use two hands to hoover the stairs. It isn't very good at picking up anything that is not hair. Any little bits that are resting on the surface it seems to spit out when you turn the unit off. It also doesn't seem to indicate if it is fully charged. I could forgive all these things if the thing was easy to clean. The brush that is on the vacuum that picks the hair up easily gets full and the hairs and bits need cutting out or it fails to spin anymore. In order to do this you need to completely remove the the outer casing exposing the motor and the wires. For some reason the motor and the wires are not covered. So you take the brush out and clean it and stray hairs fall into the electrics so you have to make sure that the electrical motor is free of dust before replacing the casing. I would also like to point out to vax that the motor is very loose and the wires are not very secure. It is a delicate operation cleaning the unit and time consuming. Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I can't find anything in the instructions telling me how to do it any other way.
