54 legendary Jazz Recordings

Savoy Records is an American record label specializing in jazz, black gospel, soul/R&B, and blues. Starting in the mid-1940s, Savoy played an important part in popularizing the jazz subgenre of bebop. During the 1950s with the advent if the LP savoy was able to reissue earlier material and newly recorded tracks for an ever growing audience.

The roster of names to be heard on the label during the 1950s is a who's who of the genre...

Stan Getz; Charlie Parker; Dexter Gordon; Herbie Mann; Lester Young; JJ Johnson etc.etc.

The music here is a treat for jazz fans and in the same way as Not Now Music/ One Day Music has produced label compilations that enter the rock n roll era this set is of the bebop era with journeys into peripheral sounds such as Paul Bley; Archie Shepp & Sun Ra. The recordings date from 1947 to 1962.

The set is most attractively designed with 8 small black and white images of artists featured and a liner note by Not Now regular Peter Gamble. The sound transfers are excellent across the 3 CDs and there is a second set to look out for...Jazz on Savoy, 54 Legendary Jazz Recordings, 1955-1956, NOT3CD136

The running times are CD1: 74.48. CD2: 78.18. CD3: 76.44.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb jazz from Savoy!, 11 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Jazz On Savoy 1957-1962 (Audio CD)
This three cd set is brilliant. i bought it at the same time as the Jazz on Savoy 1955-1956 set (blue cover). I had most of this stuff on vinyl a one time and it was so great to hear it all again. I've already listened to it over and over. Buy it! Terrific!
