Not really sure... Disappointing.
on 17 March 2014
I read the first books last summer on holiday and I really loved them. I raced through them, and couldn't wait for the 3rd book to come out. Unfortunately, since reading them I have read many, better written books in the same genre that don't rely so much on repetition and swearing to get their stories across. I did like the way Colton's past was dealt with and the the peripheral characters were good. I found both the protagonists got on my nerves, and I basically wanted to spend more time with Beckett and Haddy! I think the biggest problem was Colton's POV, I am not sure writing in a man's POV really is Bromberg's strong suit. He just swore and said the same things over and over again. Actually, Rylee repeated herself all the time too. The intensity between them got a bit old and I found myself skimming through a lot of the book. I am obviously in the minority here, as everyone else thought it was the best thing ever, so what do I know? It all felt like the writer rushed this one, and so wasn't able to write the best she could. I had the same feeling when I read Mine by Katy Evans, which suffered from the same exact problems. Writers should really get more than 6 months to write a novel, really.
