This, another interesting series of late 50's and early 60's memories, collecting compilations such as this
at a truly give-away price is a very good way of building your collection.
I have already bought a few of this series, have to admit i didn't notice this one until a couple of days ago,
quickly ordering it.
I've often said that, though already owning pretty much all the tracks on-board, listening to so many favourites
in an unfamiliar play and selection order can be quite refreshing.
This 3-CD collection harbours many well known artists and some of their successful and memorable chart
hits, i have to say there are, as is often the case on these collection a few B-Sides included on-board, but not
too many (included among them 'The Beatles' -P.S.I Love You' nothing to complain about, is it ?) there are
also one or two obscure, to me that is, artists and songs that i don't recall at all, though it should be said, nobody
can remember all the artists and songs, however these are indeed just a few, the vast majority of numbers
to be found among the '75' on-board were indeed 'Chart-Hits' that many of us remember so well.
Of course there is a vast array of albums like this one out there, myself i just feel the overall selection on-board
is really very, very good.
On Disc One we have numbers such as ........'Buddy Holly' --'True Love Ways' (album title track of course)......
'The Everly Brothers' --'All I Have To Do Is Dream'........'Paul Anka' --'Diana'........'Sam Cooke' --'Cupid'........
'Johnny Burnette' --'Dreamin'........'Elvis Presley' --'Suspicion'........'Don Gibson' --'Sea Of Heartbreak'........and......
'Roy Orbison' --'Love Hurts' (my all-time favourite version of that one)........just some of the truly magic memories
to be found on disc one........on disc two........'Cliff Richard and the Shadows' --'The Young Ones'........'Elvis Presley'
--'The Girl of My Best Friend' (originally released as the B-Side to 'Mess of Blues' the release soon became a double
A' release as both claimed a Top Ten spot here in the U.K, the song is also one of my favourite 'Elvis' tracks)........
'Bobby Darin' --'Dream Lover'........'Richie Valens' --'Donna' (He of course died in that fatal plane crash that also took
the life of 'Buddy Holly' and 'The Big Bopper' Febuary 1959)........'The Teddy Bears' --'To Know Him Is To Love Him'
....and........'The Springfields' --'Island Of Dreams'........again just a handful of the tracks that can be found on disc two
......on disc three........'Sam Cooke' --'Wonderful World'........'The Cascades'........'Rhythm Of The Rain' (always among
my many favourites)........'The Platters' --'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'........'Cliff Richard' --'I Love You'........'Tommy Roe'
--'Shelia'........'Roy Orbison' --'Blue Angel'........and........'Elvis Presley' --'Return To Sender'..........just a few of the many
terrific tracks that are indeed harboured on disc three....................i have quite simply just highlighted half a dozen or so
numbers from each of the three CD's many, many more are worthy of a mention however, i feel that quite simply from
those i have mentioned you can see why i'm enthusiastic about this music of memories collection..........if you like those
i have indeed listed you may want to check out the complete listing on the compilations 'Amazon' page,,,,,well worth a
visit.

The songs included in this compilation represent the love songs of the 50's and 60's and are so enjoyable. It is very good background music or for relaxed listening. The well known artists and their songs are there, as well as some new ones (to me), all just great! Thank you One Day Music for producing themed compilations and thank you Amazon for marketing them. I just don't hear these songs on our (South African) radio anymore. I can now have the pleasure of this music in my home.

True Love Ways, various artists, DAY3CD054

CD1 running time 64.12
CD2 running time 64.16
CD3 running time 59.41

This 75 track set follows on from the release of Crying in the Rain, DAY3CD031. This latest set covers recordings from 1957-1962 and includes many well known performances. The liner notes are by One Day Music regular Brian Parks. The attractive packaging includes 8 small photographs of artists included within the set. (Buddy Holly; Elvis; Cliff; Billy Fury; Sam Cooke; Roy Orbison; Fats Domino & The Everly Brothers). Excellent sound transfers and great value. Check out the One Day Music releases if you are a label collector...

Some of the stars who are lesser known to me are...(but could be big in the memory stakes for you)...

Johnny Burnette
John Joseph "Johnny" Burnette (1934 – 1964) was a rockabilly musician. Along with his older brother Dorsey Burnette and friend Paul Burlison, Burnette was a founding member of The Rock and Roll Trio. His third single, "Dreamin'"/"Cincinnati Fireball" (Liberty F-55285), released on May 4, 1960, made him famous to millions who had never heard of The Rock and Roll Trio. It reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and it reached No. 5 in Britain. Unlike his older Coral recordings, "Dreamin’" was overlaid with an orchestral backing. This can be heard on CD1/13.

Gene McDaniels
Eugene Booker McDaniels (1935– 2011), who recorded as Gene McDaniels, was an African American singer and songwriter. He had his greatest recording success in the early 1960s, and had continued success as a songwriter with songs including "Compared to What" and Roberta Flack's "Feel Like Makin' Love". In 1962 he appeared performing in the movie It's Trad, Dad!, directed by Richard Lester. He continued to have minor hit records, including "Chip Chip", "Point Of No Return" and "Spanish Lace", all in 1962, but his suave style of singing gradually became less fashionable. Listen to the track on CD1/19.

Linda Scott
Linda Scott born Linda Joy Sampson, June 1, 1945, Queens, New York is a former pop singer who was active from the late 50s to the early 70s. Her biggest hit was the 1961 million-selling single, "I've Told Every Little Star". She went on to place twelve songs on the charts over the next four years, the last being "Who’s Been Sleeping In My Bed," inspired by the film and written by the songwriting team of Hal David and Burt Bacharach. You can catch her biggest hit on CD2/15.

Dickey Lee
Royden Dickey Lipscomb (born 21 September 1936), known professionally as Dickey Lee (sometimes misspelled Dickie Lee or Dicky Lee), is a pop/country singer and songwriter, best known for the 1960s teenage tragedy songs "Patches" and "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)." "I Saw Linda Yesterday"charted in 1963 at number 14 and you can hear this on CD2/20.

Phil Phillips (born Philip Baptiste, March 14, 1926, Lake Charles, Louisiana) is a singer and songwriter, best known for his 1959 hit, "Sea of Love". "Sea of Love" went to number 2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 pop chart and spent 14 weeks in the top 40, as well as reaching number 1 on the R&B chart. In 1959 it sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. Catch this memorable performance on CD3/4.

Annette
Annette Joanne Funicello (1942 – 2013) was an actress and singer. Funicello began her professional career as a child performer at the age of twelve. She rose to prominence as one of the most popular "Mouseketeers" on the original Mickey Mouse Club. As a teenager, she transitioned to a successful career as a singer with the pop singles "O Dio Mio," "Tall Paul" and "Pineapple Princess", as well as establishing herself as a film actress, popularizing the successful "Beach Party" genre alongside co-star Frankie Avalon during the mid-1960s. "Dreamin' About You" (#106)/"Strummin' Song" – Vista 388 (1961) the former song can be heard on CD3/14.
