I don't "do" singles very often but once in a while a song comes along
which ticks all the boxes. The very idea of a collaboration between
Paramore's singer Haley Williams and Mr Zedd (nee Zaslavski) was,
however, enough to capture my attention. His work with Foxes (nee
Louisa Rose Allen) on 'Clarity' from the 2012 album of the same name
was a cracker and 'Stay The Night' is cast pretty-much in the same mould.
The central melody is a very simple affair but it's a good one (some of the
simplest are often the best aren't they). Ms Williams does little more than
entreat her love-interest to stay for a sleepover but I've always been a
bit of a fan of her voice and she plays her part with power and conviction.
Mr Z's big beats and shape-shifting synth arrangement pumps along nicely.
You can dance to it. You can sing along with it. What's not to like really?
