The Songs of Mann & Weil, 60 Original Classics, NOT3CD142

Barry Mann (songwriting, vocals, piano; born February 9, 1939), Cynthia Weil (songwriting; born October 18, 1940).

Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil are among the top songwriters of the 20th Century and beyond. They are one of the longest collaborating teams in the business, having been working together since 1960. Their compositions cover a range of musical styles from big ballads such as (“On Broadway,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”) to movers such as (“Kicks,” “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place”). They are also among popular music's most prolific songwriters with Barry Mann having nearly 800 and Cynthia Weil nearly 600 works registered with BMI. So set in that context this new compilation is a most welcome "public domain" addition to our shelves.

The 3 CD set has running times of CD1 48.57; CD2 46.29 & CD3 48.30. The liner notes are once more by regular Michael Heatley. Nicely packaged with 9 small black & white photographs inside the liner and a casual portrait on the cover.CD1 covers 1960-1962; CD2 covers 1958-1962 & D3 covers 1960-1962. The emphasis appears to be on 1962 and there are plenty of well known performers including Tony Orlando; Neil Sedaka; James Darren; Bobby Rydell; Steve Lawrence; Billy Fury and Barry Mann himself.

The sound transfers are very very clear throughout. This is a nostalgic and most entertaining collection and one which has already had the thumbs up from collectors. If you have enjoyed this set then you will most likely want to listen to The Songs of Pomus & Shuman NOT3CD139.

I really purchased this set for "who put the bomp ....". There are so many other memorable songs in
this CD set. The price is more than reasonable, and you'll be reflecting your "teenage Years" for months
to come. A superb collection of hits from the 50s and 60s

Another one of the fine songwriting duos to come out the Brill Building. The songs here are excellent and many still stand up to this day, including some of the rare tracks that are not easy to find on CD. Overall sound quality is excellent and it is a really nice package.

This CD box set delivers exactly what it promises: 60 excellent tracks written by legendary Mann & Weill and a cool voyage to the American Sixties. And as a bonus you get nice pictures and informative sleeve notes!

What wonderful songs this partnership wrote. Singly, jointly and with other Brill building writers. Barry Mann was a pretty good singer and should have had more records released under his own name.

What a great collection of tunes. I had no idea these guys were responsible for some of these great songs. I had no trouble with the track names on my iTunes and it's a great looking set.
