5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Enjoyable Live Recording
The reviewer here is correct to say this is not an official Tom Petty release, but so what. I'm sure Tom isn't short of a few bob, he will receive royalties on the composer credits ( for the tracks he actually composed) and as most fans of broadcast CDs know by now, these type of releases are legitimate in Europe as copyright law differs from the US. Our friend does tell...

3.0 out of 5 stars Petty Morals
Ok, let's start by saying that this is not an official Tom Petty release and it's credited to being Tom Petty live and not Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers which it clearly is. Ok, let's start by saying that this is not an official Tom Petty release and it's credited to being Tom Petty live and not Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers which it clearly is. This recording is taken from a live radio broadcast and so suffers from the problems that occur with this kind of recording being live with no overdubs. Although all the instruments are audible, even the tinkling of Benmont's keyboards, I think the songs would have benefitted from a better remixing such as bringing the guitars more upfront on some songs. Also, it is a bone of contention as to what actually is audience participation and audience interference. The audience is clearly audible throughout the songs and though I have no problems with clapping along per se, I feel that several of the songs suffer from whooping and whistling which should have been edited out. The editing between songs is terrible but since this does not affect the songs themselves is no big problem. Having said all this, this is still a very good quality recording far superior than the Live On Air cd. The songs King's Road, Don't Come Around Here No More and Runaway Trains alone are worth the price of this cd all being excellent workouts. The cd includes five fine cover versions showcasing how the band were influenced by other artists with For What It's Worth probably being the most noteworthy. This cd is a good representation of where the Heartbreakers were at in 1987. The band were dissatisfied with their latest album Let Me Up (I've Had Enough) and rarely played songs from that album on the tour to promote it, hence the inclusion of only one song from that album.

I'm sure Tom isn't short of a few bob, he will receive royalties on the composer credits ( for the tracks he actually composed) and as most fans of broadcast CDs know by now, these type of releases are legitimate in Europe as copyright law differs from the US. Our friend does tell us it's a terrific recording however, but If he' so offended by audience noise and clapping why doesn't he just listen to studio recordings - to deduct points for clapping on a live album in my view is absurd. This is a marvelous live reiording of Petty and the Heartbereakers which deserves to be heard by all fans of the group. But talking of 'Petty' there's plenty of that in the other review here.
