5.0 out of 5 stars best stallone since rocky balboa
I was worried that this would be like expendables - silly and gory. But this is a proper thriller, tension all the way through and a good reminder of why these guys (stallone and swartzanagger) are super stars. The supporting cast - Sam Neill(jurrasic park) and Jim Caviezel (person of interest) and Vinney Jones (lockstock) are equally brilliant. The shootout at the end...

3.0 out of 5 stars Tango and Cash 2?
I so wanted this to be good, but alas, its just a pretty average prison movie with a slight twist.Stallone plays a guy whos paid to break out of prisons and on his latest assignment gets caught up with fellow inmate Arnie in a twist that will have you guessing for all of 10 minutes.GREAT to see Stallone and Arnie together, thats worth the 3 stars but as far as the movie...

4.0 out of 5 stars Old school action, 18 Mar 2014
This review is from: Escape Plan (DVD)
It’s been amazing that these two – Sly and Arnie – have never got together on screen before (excluding the cameos in The Expendables movies), as they do work rather well together.

It focuses on the two men’s attempts to escape a futuristic prison which has been custom- built to prevent escapes. Guess what… it’s about to be put to its limits. So, baring in mind that the story takes place in a prison, there’s plenty of faceless thugs for our two action heroes to pound, plus a villainous warden and his henchman Vinnie Jones to sort out along the way.

This is Sly’s movie, so he does get more screen time and people to punch than Arnie, so Arnie fans may feel just a little short-changed. However, seeing as the two actors have known each other for many years, there’s a natural rapport between them which shines out. Arnie’s acting (yes, acting!) seems to have suffered since being in politics, seeming a bit stilted in The Last Stand and The Expendables, but he seems to be regaining his old late eighties/early nineties charm.

If you like either or both the aging escape-artists, you should enjoy this film, even if it’s just to watch them on screen (properly) for the first time. There’s your typical amount of action and mayhem as they figure out how to break out. My only gripe was that it was a little longer than I expected, clocking in at nearly two hours. Shave about 10-15 minutes off the runtime and you’d have a much tighter movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stallone and Schwarzenegger - a great duo, 21 Jan 2014

Ray Breslin (Sylvester Stallone) has an unusual job; he tests the security of prisons by getting himself put inside in order to break out. No one inside the prisons knows who he is - the man who wrote the book about prison security - except for his partner, Lester Clark (Vincent D'Onofrio) and colleagues Abigail (Amy Ryan) and Hush (Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson). When a particular job comes his way, to test a secret, privately funded prison for prisoners that no country wants on its books, Breslin agrees to do it. But it's a set up. Breslin, beaten and drugged, finds himself in a glass and steel cell and relies on the help of fellow prisoner, Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to devise an escape plan. Ruthless egomaniac, Warden Hobbes (Jim Caviezel) makes it his number one task to make sure neither of them get away.

Escape Plan (2013) is similar to a number of prison escape movies, with the usual cruel warden, sadistic guards, prisoners abused mentally and physically, the usual antagonisms between groups of prisoners, and violent outbreaks. This has a great cast with Vinnie Jones playing the usual nutcase/hardcase, Sam Neill as the prison doctor, and Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger teaming up. It's certainly entertaining viewing and something I will definitely, and happily, watch again if not just for the sheer joy of watching Stallone and Schwarzenegger interact on screen. Of course, there were silly bits. I mean, if someone is dangling from a helicopter ladder and being shot at, wouldn't the pilot just carefully fly the helicopter that bit further away, at least out of gunshot range? But that's Hollywood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cheesy Film, 18 May 2014

If you love a cheesy action film then this is the one for you.

I've seen it twice and I thought it would be too manly for me but I loved it and I usually prefer a chick flick to an action film. Great present for a Dad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected but Great, 26 April 2014

This is a movie with a twist and turn with a pleasant surprise to all that watch it. The action and concepts are fantastic with the fast pace of ideas that create this a marvellous movie that it is worth adding to the collection. The cast played it to a tee making you feel uncomfortable in the jail detention with them, while plotting the ideas of escaping and looking for the bright outdoors once they do escape. The prisoners are waiting to see it happen, very slim chance they will succeed and what is waiting for them after they do escape is another thing, Well it's there only hope so they must try anyway. Very different must see and saying to much will only spoil it. So no more clues now its time to go and collect your munchies for a fabulous night of entertainment that will rock you, now put your feet up and relax, well try to anyway, Plenty of action and suspense so I rated this an A grade plus for an unusual show to keep the entertainment flowing and not boring. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stallone and Schwarzenwegger deliver the action, drama and most importantly humor in this escapist entertainment, 18 Mar 2014

Finally, a Stallone / Schwarzenegger film that isn't completely beneath them.On the plus side, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are canny survivors who know a thing or two about commanding a screen. They make Escape Plan a guilty pleasure for much of its running time.Fans of '80s and '90s action films should revel in its awesome nostalgia.Stallone's third-wind career isn't damaged while Schwarzenegger's comeback is certainly helped, playing burly second banana to a cagey ape, the George Kennedy for Cool Hand Sly.Far more rib-stickingly satisfying than either Expendables or The Last Stand. There are some surprises in this modestly budgeted action film. This is more about the fun of watching these two experienced action stars work these roles, and this plot, to perfection. I was shocked but this Sly/Arnold combo package flick is far more entertaining as an action film than you might expect. Thanks to a clever twist, it's actually a lot of fun. A throwback to the violent actioners of the '80s and '90s.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sly and Arnie team up, 20 Nov 2013

Sylvester Stallone plays a security expert who breaks out of prisons for a living testing their security systems and gets approached to break out of a high tech top secret security prison that holds the worst criminals in America to test its security. While there he soon realizes that it's a set up and has to break out of the prison for real teaming up with another wrongly convicted prisoner played by Arnold Schwarzennegger. It's a fammiliar story and while both Stallone and Schwarzenneggar have done better much of the fun of this action film is seeing the 2 of them work together and they prove to be a good double act which was previously hinted at in the Expendables films. Jim Caviezel from tv series Person Of Interest, Vinnie Jones and Vincent D'Onoforio from tv series Law and Order Criminal Intent provide good support and while fun the film isn't anything you haven't seen before.
