If you like gritty crime fiction that doesn't pull any punches, then you'll enjoy this.

Three petty crooks find themselves in a whole heap of trouble when they mug the local crime lord. What follows is a race against time, punctuated by some pretty brutal retribution and it's up to DCI Marlowe and his team to sort it all out before any more body parts turn...

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring
From the reviews I thought that it would be a page turning good thriller. It was boring with the main character being very bland. The gore was there but not a story to hold it together. What a waste of money - there's more to life than struggling to read this book

I loved the black Northern humour in this, there are some very funny lines, and I also enjoyed the clever weaving of two separate investigations.

A worthy sequel to Reprisal.

Recommended.

This is a hard hitting gritty crime novels, and Alfie holds nothing back. It's tough, violent, and a great read. Alfie does it again.

I was looking forward to reading Alfie Robins latest work and wasn't disappointed. A well crafted piece with brilliant characters and realistic dialogue. A story with a smattering of black humour throughout. Hope its not too long to wait for the next one!

A great follow up for Reprisal, even though at times very gruesome and not for the faint hearted.

Very well written though and flows well throughout.

Surely there is more scope for Marlowe in the future and I can't wait.

Yet another great story with DCI Marlowe.

It starts with 3 men beating up and robbing Murphy the Snakepit night club owner, but they didn't expect to find a bag of coke in the briefcase along with the night's takings, this sealed their fate.

Murphy got a glimpse of one of his assailants enabling him to then find out who the others were.

I will say the 3 wise monkeys and let you deduce what you will from that.

At the same time a skeleton turns up in the sealed off toilets at the corner of Boulevard, why was he there, was it an accident........? Is it related some how to characters at play now?

The coke is found and has a print on which matches Murphy and so is precious evidence but it goes missing from Gordon St police station, who and why did they take it?

Will we find out if the truth comes out?

Fantastic story, easy to read and visualise happening out and about around 'Ull oops Hull.

Great follow up to Reprisal. A few unexpected twists and possible thread to be concluded in the next book?
