Cycling in London there is always a relatively high risk of bike theft. This lock does a lot to deter any potential thieves.

Pros:
- D-lock small but large enough to get round thin lamp-posts. Standard width.
- Fairly lightweight due to size
- Coating prevents rust
- 3 keys, the main of which has an LED built in for unlocking at night
- Turnable cover blocks key-hole preventing internal rust
- Locking mechanism smooth, as yet no 'stickyness'
- Cord locks front wheel.
- Cord can be easily carried around the torso
- Cheap price on Amazon
- Nice distinguishable colour

Cons:
- The D-lock holder that connects to the frame is useless. The simple tightening mechanism comes loose quickly along any small bumps in the road. Which is a pain as the lock swings round into the pedalling zone.
Luckily the lock fits into a back pocket

This is my first bicycle lock and I had to read a lot of reviews before deciding what lock to choose. Small U-locks seem to have the best reputation, and Kryptonite is among the most recommended brands (just make sure you're not buying an old kryptonite with that BIC-pen problem). The lock is pretty small, but just enough, no extra space left between your bike and a bike rack/pole. Light enough to carry in a bag, it can also be attached to the pannier rack. No real need for the complicated u-bracket. Haven't tried the flex cable, it looks sturdy, but I'm thinking of getting a second u-lock to do what the Kryptonite website calls "ultimate security lock-up". By the way, do check the website for proper lock-up instructions and to register your keys, and if you're lucky to live in one of the countries covered by the anti-theft insurance, do register for it too.

UPDATE: Haven't bothered to get another lock for almost a year, but after noticing that someone attempted to break it (unsuccessfully! the lock is now lightly chipped in two places), I'm going to get a chain lock as well, something like this Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Mini Chain 55cm.

I use my lock mostly at my university campus. Some times I leave it outside the train station. At first I was always nervous leaving my bike but this is a pretty solid lock and I feel more confident. It is quite heavy though, but if it wasn't it probably would be so strong!

I have a mountain bike with quite wide tyres. I can fit the D lock around the back wheel, one seat stay (sometime two if the bike park tube is thin) and the bike park tube. The cable loops around my front wheel then on to the D lock.

This is a superb product. I'm only compelled to write a review because my garage was broken into over Christmas where my bike was secured to a metal bracket in the ground with this lock and cable. The thieves cut cleanly through the cable, but made no progress at all on the D lock. Instead, they tried to unscrew the bracket from the ground but only managed 3 out of 4 of the screws, so they failed to get away with the bike.

As other posters have said, no lock will deter a thief if they are persistent enough and have the right equipment, but you'd need something pretty powerful to get through this lock. Also, I think the fact that it is small is an advantage. When used on my bike, it leaves very little room to manoeuvre the bike, which makes it more difficult still for a thief to get the bike out if the do manage to get whatever you have secured your bike to up from the ground.

This is a brilliant lock. It feels very strong, and it is quite small and compact so it fits in my bag without problems, and around my bike without any issues either.

I'm unsure what to make of the bright orange colouring though, it can make it stand out when your bike is locked up somewhere which may suggest you have a valuable bike, but I'm not sure.

When locking your bike, remember to loop the cable around the rear wheel and into itself (as it explains in the instructions) as I originally discarded them without looking and couldn't figure out an easy way to secure both wheels and frame until I got laughed at for the unorthodox method I found. It will make your life easier!

Bought this for my daughter's bike about a year ago and her bike is still in our possession so so far so good. The D-lock is very sturdy and can attach the bike directly to most (though not the thickest) railings/racks with the ample cable looping through both wheels too. I like the fact that it comes with three keys, one of which has a useful light. Despite a pretty wet winter and spring no rustiness has set in and the action is still smooth, helped by the sliding lock cover no doubt. In fact it still looks as new. Due to the small size of her bike frame we cannot attach the lock and a water bottle at the same time however so in the backpack it goes.

Overall, very pleased with this item. The bright orange parts serve as a good visual deterrent and it's kept the bike safe and sound. It's a compromise between size and weight for locks and the cable is obviously the weak point here so should be used for the wheels not the frame but its good value for money and has not yet let us down in any way.

I bought in July 2014 and used it most days since. Now, in March 2015 is is regularly jamming so I can't fit it quickly, and if I do manage to fit it, I find it increasingly difficult to release the lock, despite lubricating and cleaning regularly. Since it is less than a year old I assumed I could return it, but Amazon tell me that the possibility of returning expired after a month. So I could not recommend this lock; it is unreasonable for a quality lock like this to fail in less than a year.

Update a couple of weeks later - after visiting Kryptonite's website and reporting my problems there, and after confirming my key number & supplying a photo, Kryptonite (a US firm, I think) shipped me a replacement lock from the USA by courier. So assuming the old lock was a rogue example, and the new one works properly for several years, I have to change my rate from 1 star to 4

This bike lock arrived very quickly with the external company selling it via Amazon. It is a really great lock!!! I bought a fairly nice bike and really didn't want it stolen, so after reading some reviews Kryptonite locks seemed the best option. This was a really good deal as it came with the wire to tie the wheels to the lock as well. The lock fits around the bike frame and any lamp post etc very easily. It is very strong and I have had no attempts of theft whilst using it. Overall i can highly recommend this lock!!!

This lock is very solid and easy to use. The fact that one of the keys has a light on it is also useful especially now the dark nights and mornings are drawing in.
The cable, while also very strong is not quite long enough for what I wanted. I would have liked it to be long enough for me to be able to thread it through my front wheel and then attach it to the main lock which I put through the back wheel and centre post. This is my only gripe. I'm sure I will get plenty of use out of this lock over the years.

Great little lock, very sturdy, it's got a bit of weight to it, but hopefully that's a good thing, it's certainly not over cumbersome.

I'm pretty sure the branding put's a few 'would be' thieves off, I've noticed a few people casing it up outside coffee shops etc,
The fact it's got bright orange bits that say 'KRYPTONITE' seems a better deterrent than the lock itself.

There are no signs of bolt cropper marks on it, so I can only assume it's doing it's job. if I'm in town ill use the cable to secure the front wheel to the D lock which locks the back wheel to the frame. Generally I don't carry the cable as that itself is probably a good kilo - so I only carry the cable if I intend to leave my bike out of sight for more than 10-20 mins

Great product, although this is the 'MINI' so quite small, only about 7 inches from the apex of the D to the shackle, this can present difficult locking situations, and sometimes you have to be a bit inventive as to how you lock it to a secure object.

On the plus side, the fact it's smaller than your average D lock makes it much harder to break, as a would be thief will struggle to use a car jack or crow bar to bust it off as there is no room to get any leverage.

Quality product, worth every penny. I'd certainly buy again, I may be tempted to buy the standard size rather than the mini 7, but I cope fine with the mini, so very happy.
