Excellent light, shame about the provided mounting system
on 21 December 2013
This will not fit all bikes. It mounts on the rail at the back of the saddle, and protrudes some distance from the mounting point towards the front of the bike: if your saddle is fitted a long way forward on the seatpost then the seatpost is in the way, leaving nowhere to fit the light. In my case it JUST about fits, although the position in which I have to mount it means I can't angle the beam down below the horizontal.
That aside, I've been using it for 3 weeks now, on an 8 mile commute from suburban to central Manchester in December, and overall I'm pretty satisfied. It is EXTREMELY bright: you can see the red light it projects on a wall behind in bright daylight. I use it in flashing mode, as a supplement to a dynamo-powered steady light, and I really can't imagine anybody not seeing me from behind! Probably the greater danger is annoying drivers by dazzling them. Battery life seems to be excellent (in fact it hasn't needed recharging yet....)
UPDATE: after a few months the mount worked loose and the light fell off - luckily not broken, but bolts lost so I need to find replacements before I can refit it. Probably mostly my fault for not checking the tightness of the bolts often enough, but still adds to the feeling this is a good light let down by the mounting system....
UPDATE TO UPDATE: there is now a more standard seat-post mount available to buy separately, which I bought instead of replacing the bolts for the original mount. The new mount is rather pricey but MUCH better. So buy the light, but budget for the extra mount in case the one provided doesn't work for you....
