This will not fit all bikes. It mounts on the rail at the back of the saddle, and protrudes some distance from the mounting point towards the front of the bike: if your saddle is fitted a long way forward on the seatpost then the seatpost is in the way, leaving nowhere to fit the light. In my case it JUST about fits, although the position in which I have to mount it means I can't angle the beam down below the horizontal.

That aside, I've been using it for 3 weeks now, on an 8 mile commute from suburban to central Manchester in December, and overall I'm pretty satisfied. It is EXTREMELY bright: you can see the red light it projects on a wall behind in bright daylight. I use it in flashing mode, as a supplement to a dynamo-powered steady light, and I really can't imagine anybody not seeing me from behind! Probably the greater danger is annoying drivers by dazzling them. Battery life seems to be excellent (in fact it hasn't needed recharging yet....)

UPDATE: after a few months the mount worked loose and the light fell off - luckily not broken, but bolts lost so I need to find replacements before I can refit it. Probably mostly my fault for not checking the tightness of the bolts often enough, but still adds to the feeling this is a good light let down by the mounting system....

UPDATE TO UPDATE: there is now a more standard seat-post mount available to buy separately, which I bought instead of replacing the bolts for the original mount. The new mount is rather pricey but MUCH better. So buy the light, but budget for the extra mount in case the one provided doesn't work for you....

Easy to fit, very secure bracket. Light is super bright, there is no way you aren't being seen, just remember to angle the beam slightly downwards! Convenience of usb recharge is definitely a plus. All in all very well made, convenient light, would recommend to anyone.

Similar to the Cateye Volt 1200, this light is for the rear of your bike and is simply really good. The objective of any light like this is to mark your presence. On the busy roads of Oxford at rush hour where taxi and bus drivers typically think your disposable by giving you inches of clearance at best, this does help shout back at them to ensure you have more than 2 inches between your handle bars and their wing mirror.

Just bought the new HL-EL1000RC (Volt 1200) for £125 in the U.K. I prefer to use the mid setting for road use as high (1200 lm) is a little bit much for other road users! I combine it with Volt 50 rear which is an excellent match for the 1200 & is also very bright! Both come highly recommended.

A very bright light with a good battery life. The only downside is that it can only be fitted to the back of the saddle. There is a seat post mount available but it is a separate item. It would have been bette rif Cateye charged an extra fiver and included the seat post mount.

Just what you expect in a light from Cateye, well made, straight forward operation and most importantly nice and bright.
