4.0 out of 5 stars Hit ... and miss
No point in re-hashing Morrissey's performance on this track. It is a nice tribute to Lou, and us Morrissey fans will [and have] lapped it up. The other two live tracks though, are not even passable as 'B' sides. Really, after all the effort in making this beautiful item, why shove 2 substandard live performances on it? Is it worth buying? Well yes, as the 12" is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Morrissey - A tribute to Lou Reed

In 1976 the young Steven Morrissey wrote a letter to Melody Maker in which he stated that,"British punk rock is second to the New York equivalent, in that it does not possess the musical innovation". He has consistently professed his love for Patti Smith, the New York Dolls and has reminisced at an earlier age of 12 he went to see Lou Reed in concert, on his lonesome. The recent death of Lou Reed has led to a host of tributes and it is natural that Morrissey has also put out such a record. He has regularly played "Satellite of Love" from Reed's "Transformer" album in concert most recently at the 2013 Nobel Prize Ceremony in Oslo. This rendition was recorded live at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas two years ago. Being Morrissey he gives the song his own signature stamp, changing the line "I love to watch things on TV" to "I cannot stand the TV." However aside from this it is a respectful workmanlike cover of a great song but in truth unless you are a Morrissey completist you would be better advised to head to the Reed original or for that matter the version by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain which is stunner. Its good in addition to hear the blistering remastered "Your gonna need someone by your side" from "Your Arsenal", similarly the live version of "Mama lay softly on the riverbed" is a nice powerhouse cover of the track from "Years of Refusal". Roll on the next album.

Well yes, as the 12" is just a beautiful object in itself, from the retro 'Italian' Parlophone labels, to the sheer weight of the vinyl. The sound quality is spectacular, especially on the 'Your Gonna Need Someone On Your Side' track, from the re-mastered Your Arsenal. I can't wait to get the album and crank up the volume.
Ultimately it is one for the fan's collections.

nice art, seemingly from the "pregnant for the last time " era. Reasonable song, but it's not written by S.P.M., is it?
