4.0 out of 5 stars More of the Adventures with Fairy Tail!, 9 Nov. 2014
This review is from: Fairy Tail: Part 6 [DVD] (DVD)
Fairy Tail is a series worth watching. With episode 124 out of the way I thought that I'd better review the others. So, I'm reviewing the entirety of season 3 (Parts 5 & 6); the first story arc that is quite lengthy for Fairy Tail standards, as well as the first filler story arc.

STORY
If you've already watched Fairy Tail so far then you'd know what the story is, and I'm not about to spoil this set of stories, so if you haven't watched Fairy Tail yet I recommend that you do or at least read my previous review on it.
Season 3 kicks off to a decent with a few episodes of building characters, etc. but when the actual story arc kicks off it seems to go in a decent direction. The Oración Seis arc does take up almost the entirety of season 3; it introduces new characters well, as well as bringing back characters from other arcs. The introduction and reintroduction is handled extremely well. I found the new characters interesting right from the word go, and enjoyed all the screen time that they had. The reintroduction to characters I also found interesting for various reasons. At first glance some of the reintroductions, or one at least, seemed a bit cliché but over as the arc progressed I found myself just going with it and enjoying what was brought. The story arc does drag towards the end though, and seemed like that they could have ended it quicker. Though I do think that it just shows how hard the fight is.
The Daphne arc is okay; there really isn't a lot you can say about this story arc considering that it is a filler arc. So far the filler episodes haven't been that bad, and have built on the characters in some or form, but this story arc doesn't really do that. It has its moments but it’s not that great. It's very short and doesn't really do much apart from being a little stupid. That and everything seems rushed in a way, which isn't surprising since it's only four episodes long. Bottom line it's filler and can be skipped, but if you buy the DVD's then you might as well watch them.

CHARACTERS
In terms of character development there is quite a lot being spent on the new and reintroduced characters, but for the current cast of characters there isn't much development. But there is enough on the new characters to make you either like them or not. I honestly like the new character Wendy; she seems to have a lot of potential to be a strong wizard, but since she's a young girl we'll probably have to wait quite a while before she starts developing her magic a bit more.

ANIMATION & SOUND
A lot of the episodes have fairly standard animation, and if you've watched Fairy Tail so far then you'll know enough about the quality of the animation. There is one episode though that does explode on to the screen with a big budget look and feel that reminded me of Sword Art Online, though that isn't really surprising since it's made by the same company. The animation for that episode seemed like a bit of waste considering what it was about, but it was nice to see Fairy Tail have animation that looked so good.
The music is about the same, with a few new tracks here and there. A lot of the tracks are the same from previous episodes, but there are some decent new ones.
The cast is top notch as always, and really sound very much into their roles at this point. There were some actors/actresses that I was surprised to hear though; such as Brittney Karbowski (Misaka in A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun, Cecilia Alcott in Infinite Stratos, Ikaros in Heaven's Lost Property, Black Star in Soul Eater, and Selim Bradley in Fulmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) as the new character Wendy, and Aaron Dismuke (Alphonse Elric in the original Fullmetal Alchemist series) as Hibiki. Both actors provide their characters with life and do a decent job of portraying them, but Brittney Karbowski nails Wendy from the start and just sounds suited to the role.

OVERALL
This season is interesting and introduces characters well, though the Oración Seis arc does drag on for a bit it's still enjoyable. If you haven't watched Fairy Tail yet I can easily recommend it, and if you've watched it so far and enjoyed it then you must know that this is good series. I can easily say that if you've bought the Fairy Tail series so far then you might as well pick this up.

Picking up where it left of. This part concludes the Oracion Seis arc, where the Wizerd Alliance, plus the newly revived Jellal and the defected member of the Oracion Seis must stop Nervana before it unlashes its magic, starting of with the arial battle between Natsu and Cobra as well as another of the series best fights, Natsu vs Zero.
After which, the story then goes the series first filler Arc, which as fillers go isn't bad.
still a geat series and look forward to seeing more.

This sixth volume of the 'Fairy Tail' anime contains a further twelve episodes of the series across three discs. The episodes in this set can be split into two parts with the first seven and a half episodes covering the conclusion of the Oración Seis arc while the remaining three and a half episodes are a filler arc that is nonetheless relatively entertaining.

The end of the Oración Seis arc (episodes 61 to the first half of 69) is very good, definitely one of the best arcs in the series. The battles in these episodes are very good (despite the anime removing the blood) with highlights being Natsu vs. Cobra, Erza fighting Midnight and the fight between Natsu and Zero. As I mentioned in the review of Collection Five, the anime adds some backstory to the Oración Seis and this continues to be relatively good (although at least one part of it may have a introduced a slight plot hole). The episodes also reveal the somewhat emotional truth about the Cait Shelter Guild, gives Ichiya a chance to be something other than comic relief and sees Fairy Tail gain a new member. The end of the arc also sees the revived Magic Council get involved.

The Daphne filler arc (the second half of episode 69 to episode 72) is entertaining is a little silly. The arc sees Natsu and Wendy go to investigate a possible dragon sighting only to fall into a trap set by a dragon obsessed wizard. Although nowhere near as good as the canon storyline, this filler arc is still relatively entertaining with some very funny moments throughout, while the final battle of the arc gives the other members of the Fairy Tail Guild something to do as well which is always nice.

The animation for the series remains at the same level as always, as does the voice acting for the English dub (the original Japanese is included as well of course). Of the voices for the new characters introduced in this collection Christopher Bevins does a good job as the Magic Council's Captain Lahar while Gwendolyn Lau does a reasonably good job of voicing Daphne.

The collection includes a couple of cast commentaries, textless songs and trailers as extras.

This Collection Six of 'Fairy Tail' was very entertaining. The conclusion of the Oración Seis arc was very good and worth a full five stars on its own and although the filler arc was quite silly in places, it was good enough to not reduce that score by more than half a star or so.
