This is a mediocre presentation of a great score (five stars) by veteran Hollywood composer Elmer Bernstein (whose name does not even appear on the cover). Be forewarned, this was poorly mastered from a vinyl LP. Obviously Hallmark didn't care enough to send its very best.

Okay, so it's the original vinyl edition dumped onto CD by Hallmark entertainment (It's NOT a pirate copy as somebody states in response to the other review on here). Elmer Bernstein IS credited (on the back cover and on the disc itself) and the sound is actually not that bad. Not amazing, but pretty good. The downside - and at the time of writing this disc is less than 2 GBP, so it's almost petty to mention - is that this is a very small selection of the score. For the price, you can't complain and nor should you, because what is on this disc is stirring, beautiful stuff. And seeing as every other (incomplete) edition is currently an over priced collectible, this is a good place to start with this classic score.

I've listened to this disc a good number of times now, and I honestly feel that it's a very affordable and enjoyable re-issue as long as you know that it's not all the music.

Again, do your homework and you will find Elmer Bernstein one of the great film composers of his time. We all know his most
famous scores as "The Magnificent Seven" and "The Great Escape" but "The Ten Commandments", although an earlier piece
of his work, still stands out at a time when the biblical and historical epics were being created in modern cinema history. This
film was outstanding for its time, especially the special photographic effects in the opening of the Red Sea and the creation of
the stone tablets by God when He delivered the Ten Commandments to Moses. Although rather a long film, it should be seen
by everybody as I am sure the world would be a better place if they did.

Recording and reproduction are fine, but presentation sadly lacking, with all the appearance of a CD-R, but the item
is not advertised as such. No booklet with notes, just a single-sided sheet with the movies title, and track listings on reverse card. Not my favourite Elmer Bernstein score either, to put it mildly, but a fascinating glimpse nonetheless into what was just the beginning of a most illustrious career
