This volume of the 'Bleach' anime contains the final twelve episodes of the Zanpakutô Tales arc. The first two episodes of this volume conclude the Rebellion portion of the arc before the ten remaining episodes deal with the aftermath.

The two episodes that finish off the Rebellion portion of the arc are relatively good with some reasonably good action but is unfortunately somewhat forgettable. In the aftermath of Muramasa's defeat though, it is discovered that the Zanpakutô Spirits of some deceased Soul Reapers have gone out of control and start running amuck as Sword Beasts. The following ten episodes are mostly episodic comedy episodes but many of them have some very nice moments. The highlights of these episodes include: Episode 259, 'Terror! The Monster That Lurks Underground', that sees Ikkaku (along with his Zanpakutô Hôzukimaru), Nanao and Hanatarô venture into the underground tunnels beneath the Seireitei in search of a thief who was stealing from the Squad Four barracks and introduces Hanatarô's Zanpakutô Hisagomaru; Episode 260, 'Conclusion?! Hisagi vs. Kazeshini', that sees Kazeshini forced to look after a baby and is actually quite sweet; and episode 264, 'Battle of the Females? Katen Kyôkotsu vs. Nanao!', that sees Nanao forced to work with Shunsui's younger Zanpakutô and is also quite sweet. My favourite of these episodes though is easily episode 258, 'Stray Snake, Tortured Monkey', where while on a mission to the World of the Living, Zabimaru's snake spirit decides to go solo only to meet up with Ichigo's sister Karin.

The animation and English voice acting in this volume are both as good as they usually are for the series. There are few new characters in this volume with the best probably being Hisagomaru voiced very well by Colleen O'Shaughnessey.

Overall this volume was quite entertaining with some funny and sweet moments throughout the episodes. The Zanpakutô Tales arc is probably one of the better filler arcs of the series and I feel this volume is worth a low five stars.
