The good news is that this is the second set of J. GEILS BAND Original Albums release at the price of a single CD.
The bad news is that all the albums are the original- and just that there are no additional tracks nor are the CDs remastered which is the case with a lot of similar releases today.
However a fan, Wayne Klein has told me that on all of the CDs "Nightmares...And Other Tales From The Vinyl Jungle, Hotline,Live - Blow Your Face Out and Monkey Island the sound is fine.
So the label only have have missed a trick on the absence of extra tracks to entice people to buy.
So if you already have a couple on Cd already it may not be worth getting the set without the extra remastering or extra tracks add to the fact that one of the CDs is a best of so there will be a lot of doubling up of tracks.
On the other hand if you have then on vinyl and they are worn out or scratched then you really are on to a winner.
The other good news is that volume 1 is available too. Here is a link
Stunning value - shame they only did 7 studio albums and 2 live albums on this label as this is why they stupidly make up the ten sets (Vols1 & 2) with a best of. These two sets are equally good with the plums being the live albums on each set.
Great way to get a bunch of cracking albums by one of the USA's (then) hardest-working live acts. They were funky, they rocked, and also did the Blues with panache. The live 'Blow Your Face Out' set gives some impression of their live brilliance, and the title track of Monkey Island shows that they could really innovate when they stretched out. They'd jump ship to EMI to have hits, of course, but the J Geils Band Atlantic Records catalogue is well worth investigation - and at this price, it's a bargain.
I had been lookig to replace my worn out 1975 Hotline album for many years but was not prepared to pay an exagerated price. This was a perfect solution and the bonus live material is also J Geils at their best.
