Enjoyed these, looking to get the next ones
on 9 January 2014
I caught one of Roth's novellas in another box set and quite enjoyed her writing style, so thought I'd check out some of her other works, this being my first purchase.
I've enjoyed this series so far and will be looking out for the other titles. The books all follow the usual "shifter looking for his soul mate" theme, but there is an intersecting main theme running through the series (I won't say what/who though, no spoilers here) and its an interesting angle IMHO.
There are a few editing mistakes (in one of the earlier stories General Newman suddenly becomes General Carter for a few pages) and a couple of out of context words (obvious use of spell checker vs human editing I think) but this doesn't detract from the storyline really, and sometimes I can be a bit pedantic over these things, but it does bug me that the same care doesn't seen to be taken with e-books as with printed material. We still pay good money for them you know!
The stories are quite short, I went through the whole 4 book set in about a day and a half, but they're fairly fast paced and I did get drawn in to the characters. Personally I think my favourite book out of the four was the last one, although I think I'm a bit biased there as Wilson does make me laugh. I like a lovable rogue.
On the whole it's an easy reading style; the storylines are along a military/special ops vein, with a bit of romance and a few sexy scenes thrown in, but not to the point where it's sex for the sake of filling pages. There's also a good amount of banter between the guys on the team, which is amusing.
Would recommend this set to anyone with a love of shifter based stories.
