5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of the seat excitement!
‘Impasse ‘is the fourth chapter of a journey that chronicles the events of war throughout Europe and the Pacific after the defeat of Germany in 1945. The Red Army has invaded Europe and once again the allies have had to take up arms and fight a growing war even worse than the previous one. ‘Impasse’ give’s up some of the finest and bloodiest...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good - but grinding a bit!
This was another good addition to an excellent series. The fact that I have read four in the last 6 months is telling!

However, this one did frustrate a little. It was a bit ponderous in places and I felt that some of the scenes were a little too contrived. Sorry to be picky - but I would rather have seen a few of the loose ends tied up at the end of a long...

5.0 out of 5 stars Edge of the seat excitement!, 22 Nov. 2013

‘Impasse ‘is the fourth chapter of a journey that chronicles the events of war throughout Europe and the Pacific after the defeat of Germany in 1945. The Red Army has invaded Europe and once again the allies have had to take up arms and fight a growing war even worse than the previous one. ‘Impasse’ give’s up some of the finest and bloodiest action scenes I have ever read and left me shaking due to the depth of action, tension and events that unfolded as I read this book.

To anyone thinking about reading these books please start with ‘Opening Moves’ as the continuity stays throughout all the books. A great set of books to read and the author stands out in his own right with his account of what happened to a group of soldiers, airmen and sailors who took up arms once again on the battlefields of Europe in the 40’s.

The author has to be congratulated for this enthralling 4 book series that from the first outset of ‘Opening Moves’ through to the final episode of ‘Impasse’ gives a truly captive read. These 4 books of what is the ‘Red Gambit’ series are exciting and engaging which don’t hold back on excitement and tension!

Thank you Mr Gee for these books, I won’t forget the ground events from ‘Impasse’ for sure, can’t wait for the next battle!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ourstanding, 24 Nov. 2013

Fourth book in the series and, as has been said, the darkest. Having said that by this point in the timeline things would start to get more brutal & that follows. A little lighter on battles compared to the previous books but, in my view, the best yet. It deals more with some of the behind the frontline goings on & characters not at the front.

Really looking forward to the next book & those that come after.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative History at its best, 23 Nov. 2013

Impasse is the fourth book in the Red Gambit series and the best so far. It is probably the darkest in the series but this has to be taken in the context of the story and is in no way gratuitous for the sake of it. The author shows he has no favourite characters and is ruthless in killing off key characters. The multiple plotlines are well written and handled well in their coming together. If you have not yet read any of the series you should start with Opening Moves and work your way through the rest of the series as you would not be able to run with the story by buying this book first. The author has also helpfully produced a series of Biographies of the characters. The Red Gambit series is certainly Alternative History at its best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, 21 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Impasse (The Red Gambit Series Book 4) (Kindle Edition)
Impasse is the 4th book in the Red Gambit series and is probably the best. The action is unrelenting and quite dark in places, but this only adds to the story. Once again the Author is quite ruthless in dealing with characters in the book, and you no idea who will live or day on a page to page basis. For those new to the series, you need to start at no I, as these are not stand alone books. At over 700 pages this book ( and all the books are quite long, but easy to read) is outstanding value for the price.
If you like alternative history, or a good war book then this is the series for you
Ps There are also separate bios for the series which are good value and do enhance the series

A really good story line with engaging lead characters that play on age old fears of a cold war at a time of high tension

Horrific battle scenes with a medieval savagery that could have come from the field of Agincourt, Colin Gees descriptions of the close quarter combat will give you nightmares and keep you awake at night shaking under the bedroom covers.......not for those of a squeamish nature but describes the utter inhumanity that man will inflict on his fellow man.
Read with the lights on and thank God you'll never have to fight for your life and reduce yourself to something less than human to survive, totally outstanding!

This series just gets better and better.

Down side :- don't know when the next one is due out and the author has said there could be as many as 10 now in the series, I am not a patient man.

Write faster Colin, write faster :)

Only problem is that the maps in the book are difficult to read and would add greatly to the story. The author already knows this and is trying to address the issue but it will be hard for Kindle content unless you are reading on a tablet.
