The thing with Hank3 is you never know quite what to expect. On this album he plays it straight but Hank's idea of straight is still ground breaking. With a fair mixture of Hillbilly hoe downs, country blues and a touch of rock this is probably Hank's most accessible album for a while.That is not to say his past albums are not great it's just that this release seems to have more structure.I would say that this seems more of a country concept album about living in America in these times.
As I said it may not be instant but after a few listens everything starts to unfold and It is up there with the best of his work.

I like his voice, I like the feel of his records, but it is all a bit the same and with hank playing most of the instruments himself it has its limitations because he is not a musical virtuoso on any of them. It gives you the feeling that you could make your own album like this, but then you probably couldn't, which is why Hank is Hank, and we are not
