4.0 out of 5 stars better than no. 10 and Cruel Britannia
These compilations are always going to be a mixed bag but you have to set this against the pleasure of expectation that you get a number of times over as you go from one film to the next. I found this one had a number of hits and no real misses:

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best "Boys on Film" offering so far.
The cover quote "Funny, sexy, imaginative....breathtaking" I found this set of short films to be none of those things, well may be one of those things! Funny, well "Spooners" is the only one that comes close to being funny, Sexy...well "We are Animals" is the only contender for "Sexy". Imaginative, yes! "We are animals" is very imaginative, as are most of the other...

These compilations are always going to be a mixed bag but you have to set this against the pleasure of expectation that you get a number of times over as you go from one film to the next. I found this one had a number of hits and no real misses:
Three Summers, the fourth of eight and the longest, is a daring Danish film set in idyllic countryside near a lake over three successive summers in which a divorced father interacts with the teenage son of friends. They have sex when the boy is only fifteen, which would be enough to get him sent to prison here, but presumably not in Denmark. It is a lyrical film of striking light conditions and facial shots, set to a jazz soundtrack that plays up its freewheeling but intense tone.
Alaska Is A Drag packs a real punch in more senses than one as it shows the travails of Leo, an Eartha Kitt-like boy in a flamboyant headscarf gutting fish in a port in Alaska. Permanently bullied by other young colleagues, he then meets the free-thinking, attractive Declan ...
Burger is pure Martin Parr - a cross-section of youth in a late-night kebab joint, often a bit drunk, shot up close and with an eye to absurdity, but somehow getting a lot of charm out of it without being cutesy. Three gay guys loom large, but don't dominate, so you wouldn't say it was a 'gay' film. It's very funny indeed.
For Dorian is a touching exploration of a boy with Down's Syndrome who seems to be gay, and his single-parent father's reaction to discovering this. Genuinely poignant, it never feels exploitative.
The Last Time I Saw Richard is an Australian offering with very attractive leads featured on the box. The main character - the one on the left - certainly provides a high eye candy quotient, although the film is far from sweet. It tells of two boys in a psychiatric ward and gives graphic representation to their demons and inner states. Not one of the best, but vivid ...
We Are Animals is similarly ambitious and visually daring, showing an apocalyptic take on the AIDS crisis set in the mid-1980s. In fact it is quite interestingly disorientating in its 13-minute span, if not very memorable.
Spooners is quite funny but a bit cutesy and playing on stock reactions. It's a sort of comedy of embarrassment in the bedding department of a large store.
Finally, Little Man is a disturbing fantasy on gay promiscuity and poor self-esteem, given graphic representation against a benevolent figure who lives upstairs and plays the role of a guardian angel, only to be cruelly rebuffed. It lurches into thriller/horror territory. Not one of the best, but not disastrous either, with some nice torsos on show.
Altogether it averages out at about four stars, with the first four of the above being better than the others, but this is very subjective ...

"We are animals" is very imaginative, as are most of the other offerings here, breathtaking definitely no. The offerings here are well acted and produced, but the stories are not particularly "Funny", "Sexy" or "Breathtaking", not the best "Boys on Film" offering so far, but there are still some interesting thought provoking short film here, no absolute duds, worth a look!

I was about to give up on this latest compilation of Boys on Film vol. 328 (or so it seemed) as I went through the shorter stories first. I can't say I was overly impressed this time around and I began to question whether the compilers were, not scraping the barrel, but that the gay angle was starting to look tenuous or just a subtext. However two of the longer shorts I kept for the end were definitely worth seeing. 'Three Summers' (Denmark) from Carlo Augusto de Oliveira charts three summers during which a man in his thirties is seduced by a boy half his age and both have to live with the consequences. It's a sobering tale which stayed in my memory. The second short I enjoyed was Nicholas Verso's 'The Last Time I Saw Richard'. A chilling picture of the destructive nature of mental illness and the common demons that draw together two teens who initially have little in common. It is well played by the two young actors and the FX are not intrusive. The other films vary in quality though 'For Dorian' is a good stab at tackling Downs and sexuality though not long enough to explore it. While 'Spooners' is an entertaining comedy. As I said before, I hope the compilers will wait till they have enough quality before releasing future volumes and to remember that these are supposed to be GAYshorts not a mixture with too many other themes. Eight shorts over 2hrs 20mins plus more extras than is usual. Various subtitles and yet another different menu view easier to navigate than is sometimes the case.

some films I loved , others I actually though were rubbish but I am giving 4 stars rather than 2 because of the following ; 3 Summers [ as I love Danish stuff and recognised some of the actors ] , Spooners [ as it made me laugh] and For Dorian [ as it made me think ] . This isn't the best boys on film so as a fan Im rather disappointed

Whereas most of the short stories within this series have had some kind of message this album in the series sets out to be controversial but in most aspects fails to be so. It is not the fault of the series but the lack of imagination by a lot of the film makers involved. Usually I would go back and remember about 6 of the films on one of these albums but this one has remained rather anonymous in their banality.
