5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for fans
Absolutely first class live performance. The sound quality is surprisingly good. Tom's performance is assured and sounds heart felt. The backing band are great, particularly Frank Vicari on top form on tenor sax, who alone has made me feel like digging out my old jazz albums. So you've heard all the songs before but if you're a die hard fan you'll welcome these...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice.......but!
Nice to have to complete your collection of Tom's early works, but why do the Americans talk so much during a performance?

Absolutely first class live performance. The sound quality is surprisingly good. Tom's performance is assured and sounds heart felt. The backing band are great, particularly Frank Vicari on top form on tenor sax, who alone has made me feel like digging out my old jazz albums. So you've heard all the songs before but if you're a die hard fan you'll welcome these renditions.

The only slight negative - the usual whooping and hollering US audience, but it goes with the territory for live albums recorded there, particularly of that period. It's not bad enough to detract from the overall quality.

Well worth five stars.

A live album from a radio broadcast with surprisingly good sound. Tom doing all the best of his then repertoire (considering that his first album came out only 4 years earlier). This is strictly for die hard fans. If you've just discovered him, this album is not for you -- yet. But the already initiated cannot do without it. Glad is out there. I don't think Tom has approved its release but here it is. A gift from the heavens! Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance and product, 14 Feb 2014

This is an excellent recording and shows Tom on top form. With regards to comments from other reviewers, I think the sound quality is great - full stop, but considering a live show from so long ago, it is extraordinary. The crowd noise is a little OTT in parts, but so many early Tom bootlegs lack crowd atmosphere, it is fantastic to hear the crowd reaction, and if you close your eyes and allow yourself, you will end up in the club with the rest of the audience.
The band is great and also on top form, and there are noticeable, subtle and nice interpretations to some of the songs which in my mind, makes this recording a bit special.
Certainly, for fans of Tom, I don't think you can fail with this - one reviewer mentioned that this is not for first time fans, but if you are into this genre, and appreciate interactive live music from a club rather than a big arena, then there is lots to love about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great songs, unbelievably awful recording!, 28 Dec 2013
This review is from: My Fathers Place (Audio CD)
The two other reviewers, at the time of writing this, say that this is surprisingly good sound - but compared to what? Let's be clear, the sound is just terrible, however you judge it, almost unacceptable in a commercial release - if you were there that night and made an illicit recording with the cheapest cassette recorder in the deepest pocket of your very thick overcoat, you might still be a bit disappointed!!! Having said that, and if you are a fan with most of the already available CDs this is a great addition to your collection - the performances and the band are fantastic. So, make your own mind up if you are happy to put up with the awful sound!!!
