I really enjoyed this book. Good straight forward SF and very surprisingly realistic and very feasable.

Unusually this is a very contempary work and doesn't rely on magical or alien breakthroughs, but rather just current engineering possibilities.

I don't want to give the plot away, but it is believable and leaves you wanting more. The only grumble I would have is talking about the "British team", please either call them Virgin or give them a totally fictious name! (Iknow, copyright law !)

Anyway people, read it and enjoy. Will I buy anymore in the series - I think that will be a Yes.

Not quite finished it, but enjoying it. T I Wade writes interesting books that have a few holes in them. Jonesy and VIN on a tour of America 'have a look' at a private airfield and are taken in and become astronauts for the man that owns the field - in fact the first 2 company astronauts to go to space despite there being hundreds of employees working there - and VIN doesn't even have legs as he lost them to an IED in Iraq. It COULD happen...... Anyway, if you ignore the holes and coincidences and just want some enjoyable escapism, then this book is fine.

I didn't think much of this story. If I'd paid for the paperback I'd be really upset.
The narrative is slow, the plot unrealistic and the characterisation is weak. Clearly, the author has some statement to make concerning the possibility of a fascist take-over of the USA. My only comment to that is, "Too Late, mate".
Having done a lot of flying in my earlier life it was clear to me that the author had no real idea of the realities of learning to fly or of aircraft and space-craft operations. And as the book is filled with the minutiae of loadings, schedules, trajectories etc, it's galling that most of it is twaddle and that the author hadn't bothered to check up the facts. he even says that the Lockheed C5A Galaxy is made by Boeing. Errrr, the clue is in the name.
The later books are the same. The author talks about the "Dark Side of the Moon", writes of the far side being in permanent darkness and moonwalkers watching earth-rise. None of which is correct or possible.
I'm getting worked up now, so I'll stop

Believable science fiction at last! The characters are well drawn, and the principle of the story is quite believable. The political scenario is probable as well. This book is just the beginning of a series, and you will want to read the rest.

I enjoyed this first book in the series, very creative plot and the writing was well crafted, only a hint of political bitterness that would come to define future instalments. I enjoyed the book, but wish I had stopped with the first story.

Really enjoyed this and looking forward to reading the rest of the series. This will appeal to people, like me, who think, "what's the next step for us". This could be as close to our future as it gets.

I first found this author with his Invasion USA series, if you haven't read them then I suggest you look them up, an excellent series.

America One (Book 1 of 3) I found again to be well written, good character developement with sufficient technical details to keep it realistic but not to much that it bores the reader, you cannot help but wish there was a real Mr Richmond out there to help get NASA a kick up the backside!!!

I for one am hooked, hey I can understand a previous comment about cliff hangers, none of us like them but we can all understand them when its a triolgy.

Roll on Book 2 & 3!!!!!

Phil
