5.0 out of 5 stars Accessible and Informative
If you're looking for book that demystifies this complex and challenging disorder, this will do the trick. The author has clearly had close-quarters experience with NPD's and writes with empathy, but in a no-nonsense style. The symptoms and potential prognoses are described in accessible language, making it easy for anyone affected but inexperienced to interpret the...

1.0 out of 5 stars A non-professional pamphlet
This is a very slim work (note it is 62 small pages). It's more one person's personal review of a small amount of literature on the subject. The author is not a professional and does not explain her rationale for approaching the book. It's fine if you want a very brief, superficial first look at the subject, but you'd be better off spending your money on something even if...

This review is from: Narcissistic Personality Disorders: Distancing from Narcissism (Kindle Edition)
If you're looking for book that demystifies this complex and challenging disorder, this will do the trick. The author has clearly had close-quarters experience with NPD's and writes with empathy, but in a no-nonsense style. The symptoms and potential prognoses are described in accessible language, making it easy for anyone affected but inexperienced to interpret the issues, and to differentiate between the the full-blown disorder versus the more common but less serious personality traits. if you feel that you are exposed to Narcissistic behavior, this is an excellent text to help you assess the seriousness of your situation and how to move forwards with your life. Really helpful stuff.

In addition, not only are there lots of typos as other reviewers have mentioned, but the writing is poor. This is not a thoughtful or conscientious work.

1.0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there, don't bother with this one., 19 Sept. 2014

Don't buy! Poorly written, poor use of English, goes off subject, limited content. There are many better books on the subject. The only chapter of vague use was 'breaking up with a narcissist' but even then this subject matter is much better dealt with in the book 'The Path Forward: Surviving the Narcissist' by Lisa E Scott, (highly recommended with good research, explanations and personal accounts, easy to relate to and for once, addresses your needs and feelings). Lisa E Scott also wrote 'It's all about him' (How to identify and avoid a narcissist). Excellent for the men in your life and gives a better understanding of your partner if you suspect he is a narcissist. If your narcissist is a family member or co-worker then Scott's books may also shed some insight but there are other books out there that will help you, but don't bother wasting your money buy buying this one by Penley, you'd get better free help just by reading the 'see inside' on other Amazon books! (ps the books were bought to help a friend but we all read them and felt the Scott books helped us to help her and she thought so too!).

3.0 out of 5 stars Good information, bad publishing, 15 Jan. 2014

Great first point of call for those new to NPD. The information is clear and easy to digest. However, there are so many typing mistakes, it becomes annoying to read and detracts from the credibility of the content.
