Mixed feelings. A gripping narrative and clever plot, but the story falls flat on its face whenever it steps back in history. The characters encountered in Victorian London and Tudor Edinburgh are shallow, often slapstick, never believable. The encounter with Jack the Ripper is straight from Scooby-Doo, while the Tudor adventure is more like Blackadder! So frustrating, as much of the book is so good!

To get to gripes with the characters you need to read the books in order. Enjoyed the first book but this follow on I found flowed much easier and was a better read. It follows Max at St Mary's and the twists and turns in history. Food for thought could this ever be possible! Real page turner, yes there a few typos but doesn't detract from the book. More please.

Just starting the 3rd now!!! Can't put them down, I need sleep but so engrossed in the dramas of Dr Maxwell and her colleagues from St Mary's. These books make me laugh, cry and keep me on the edge of my seat. This is an exceptional series of books about time travel and I'm learning so much about history too. Download or buy, you will not be disappointed!!!

Have had a fairly unproductive Saturday with the exception of reading. I read this book from cover to cover today and loved it once again, the twists and turns that Max and her gang have to sort out. This book started off with a bang in Whitechapel and didn't stop pleasing all the way through, edge of your seat stuff. I'm off to buy book 3!!

I love this series, the realistic cynical female protagonist keeps everything fresh and the reader rooting for her. The stories are intricate enough to leave you wanting to read another chapter to find out what happens without being ridiculously far fetched, which is very talented considering the books are about time travelling historians!!

Wasn't sure if the rest of this series would match up to the first book, but I wasn't disappointed! I might actually have to check out some of the historic details as they seem so real. This is a fabulous series, I have now bought all of them and hubby is reading them too. Quite British humour - especially the on-going tea...

This is my all time favourite series. Nothing better than snuggling up with these books and a nice cup of tea. A laugh out loud moment in every chapter. I get chills every time I read about Jack the Ripper in the pod. A MUST read for anyone who likes time travel, comedy and general trouble makers. Thank you so much Jodi.

Wow! What more can I say! Thank you to the previous reviewers who took the time to give feedback on this free book which in turn made me down load it. It's an absolutely great read if you like quirky sci-fi Terry Pratchet style books you'll enjoy it. Have to go - off to down load all the others in the series.
