5.0 out of 5 stars Best F1 DVD review in years

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but much of the same.
Having collected the last 10 or so years, this is more of the same. Good but not great

An occassional montage with music and drama (which the TV throw together straight after each Grand Prix) would be nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best F1 DVD review in years, 27 Dec 2013

Recent F1 reviews on DVD have been a disappointment (2012 was a particularly poor effort) but this year's season review has been put together extremely well.

Whereas previous years have just provided race highlights with little or no narrative given to events off-track, the 2013 DVD tells the story of the year, with coverage of pre-season testing and the young driver test, key incidents in practice/qualifying plus the fallout from "Multi 21" and the "secret" Pirelli test, a Mark Webber retrospective, and the tragedies of Mark Robinson and Maria De Villota.

Some minor negatives: When selecting individual races (as opposed to select play from the start) only the race itself is shown which is a minor inconvenience. Also, the DVD is almost devoid of any extras, save for the obligatory driver profiles (although the quality of the main feature does not make this a big issue for me personally).

Despite not being a classic season (far from it), this has ironically been the most enjoyable DVD to watch for many years. Hopefully the official F1 review keeps up this standard for future years.

PS: this is a review of the DVD rather than Blu-Ray

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing season interspersed with top quality drives!, 17 Feb 2014
This review is from: F1 2013 Official Review DVD (DVD)
Another year gone and yet more annoying rule breaking by Red Bull, as soon as Bernie Ecclestone is gone then the playing field is back in balance. Fairly good coverage of the races, apart from half of them being pointless, not deserving of air time on TV. A classic Australian grand prix with fighting all the way down the grid, a team order fiasco at Malaysia (yet more underhand Redbull/vettel tactics, I swear they are trying to disgrace poor Webber), (even Mercedes were at it). Superb drive for Alonso at China to beat Raikkonen and Hamilton. Bahrain was almost identical to 2012. Alonso's drive in Spain humiliates Mercedes and Redbull, with a clearly less competitive car he yet again hands their asses to them. A second win for Rosberg as he controls the Monaco Grand Prix, followed by a three way shoot out for second place at Montréal (Alonso wins that fight) vettel escapes because of it. Then its the tyre centred British GP containing 4 blowouts and a lot of debris, Rosberg holds of Webber and Alonso for his third win. vettel wins his first German GP but not easily as both Grosjean and Raikkonen challenge him. Hamilton dominates Hungarian grand prix for his first Mercedes win. Then Redbull domination till the end of the season, nothing worth mentioning apart from improving form for Grosjean as he becomes the main contender to vettel, picking up podiums in Korea, Japan (leads most of the race), India (from 11th), and America. Not to mention first points for Gutierrez and Bottas, with the latter looking to get pole at Austin before mistake ruins last lap, picks up 4 points for eighth, the upswing in form courtesy of removing part of front wing, if they did it earlier then they could have got a lot more points. Mercedes improves to second, McLaren disappoints as it falls to fifth, only just holding off Force India, while earlier weaknesses for Sauber are smoothed out letting Hulkenberg take a Fourth and Fifth in Korea and Italy, Toro Rosso improve to finish ahead of Williams, as Marussia does to overtake Caterham. If the second half was like the first half then this season could have been a good fight between vettel, Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton and Rosberg, maybe even Webber, Grosjean and Massa could have got stuck in!!!!

The annual F1 Review is always good. When the year's highlights are condensed into one DVD it all seems so much more watchable.

5.0 out of 5 stars F1 2013, 23 Jan 2014
This review is from: F1 2013 Official Review DVD (DVD)
F1 2013 returns to the story line format for the season with Ben Edwards providing race commentary and season news items.
The season is very well represented with all the major headlines (pirelli tyre failures, Mark Webbers exit and multi-21 and so forth) being well told. There are more radio messages replayed which give more insight into who said what which is particularly interesting with the multi-21 story.
Sound and picture quality are as good as ever and as always footage used from the season is top class.
A lot of people have been quite negative about the 2013 season given Red Bulls domination but the Dvd does remind you that the first half of the season was definitely an open book concerning the championship while the second half does do a good job at showing the racing behind the number 1 driver.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable watch and a definate step up to the 2012 release. Good to see the return of the season as a story format. For an F1 fan, a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Horrible season, great review, 23 Jan 2014

This review is from: F1 2013 Official Review DVD (DVD)
It has been surely a horrible and boring season, but this season review was superbly done despite the fact that it was so boring. The commentary is a little-bit failed as it seems that Red Bull was the best together with Mercedes, and Lotus with Ferrari basically had no chance, so when they were on the podium or doing great moves on track it was a sudden surprise, that's the main reason why I gave 4 and not 5 stars, but otherwise perfectly summed together with many not-seen on TV moments. Can't wait for the blu-ray.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2013 A long season, 19 Jan 2014
This review is from: F1 2013 Official Review DVD (DVD)
There were more races in 2013 than the previous years and this D.V.D. reflects that. However the highlights that are shown are very good for the time the programme runs. It could have been a lot better if highlights of qualifying had been included but on the whole I was well pleased with the content. If you are a F1 fan it is a must.
