4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a try.
First issue isn't quite finished article, but new magazine shows a lot of promise. There are a number of fine articles and although WW2 features heavily it's good to see material on naval history included as well. Interview with Gen David Richards gives magazine gravitas. Soldiers should enjoy works of fiction given away with magazine too and modern and historical stories...

3.0 out of 5 stars solid work
i thought this was going to be something other than what it is; for people interested in military material, this is satisfying - perhaps it is a little too 'comprehensive' but it is part of a collection of ongoing projects. very impressive is not always totally gripping (for me).

Soldiers should enjoy works of fiction given away with magazine too and modern and historical stories provide nice contrast, which represent spirit of publication.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great holiday read, 4 July 2013
I took Fighting Times on holiday to Spain with me last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The articles are well researched and the content is good.
You can read about a wide range of issues, from present day Military Matters to historical pieces.
Strongly recommend purchasing a copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good content. Good value., 20 Jun. 2013
There should be enough to please most people in this. More so than a magazine Fighting Times can be viewed as a journal (given its intelligent content and small amount of ads etc).

Although strong on the Second World War and the interview with David Richards gives an insight in to state of armed forces today I'd like to see more pieces on medieval and ancient history in future issues.

Would definitely recommend to squaddies and officers alike. Am a subscriber to History Today and would say Fighting Times is suitable for that readership too.

It's not quite the complete finished article yet, but it's a worthwhile venture that's well executed. And it's decent value. Will be downloading next edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality and Quantity, 29 Jun. 2013
There's enough meat here for serious historians as well as those in the military. Eclectic choice of subjects may be considered strength or weakness but there is quality and quantity in regards to content. Would like to see more humour and other features related to standard magazines but Fighting Times will hit the spot for military enthusiasts to dip in and out of.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up, 29 Oct. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Can give Fighting Times the thumbs up. Interview by Patrick Bishop with Genral Richards is a coup but there are plenty of other engaging articles - for sailors, soldiers and civilians. Nice to see some women writers included in line up but, aside from Rachel Johnson's piece, the magazine lacks humour (and the black humour of soldiers at that). Maybe that's not what editors were going for though. The fiction at end of magazine is a neat idea too and, like rest of publication, puts the old and the new side by side.

This is not really a book but the first of a military journal which is full of articles asking various questions of us to provoke thinking on military and historical matters. It asks various questions such as should we bring back National Service or the question of women on the front line.

It is an interesting read for the general reader as well as those interested in military matters
