TOP 500 REVIEWERon 21 January 2014
This latest installment is practically a spoof of itself. The opening scene of coming attractions had me laughing. In this installment Machete (Danny Trejo) goes to Mexico, gets a guy, brings, him back, gets killed, comes back to life, and saves the world. That is pretty much it. The film makes fun of society, especially beauty pageants. Charlie Sheen as president? The film has major league stars lining up to take part of the fun.

This is perhaps the quirkiest in the series, taking the franchise in a new direction. There are flashbacks to a previous film, but knowledge of past films are not necessary, its a grindhouse. We watch it for hot girls with guns talking tough, heads getting cut off, and the explosions.

Great with popcorn.

Parental Guide: F-bombs. No nudity. 3D sex scene with Amber Heard.

If you're reading this then you probably know the back-story - Machete was originally a trailer on the Grindhouse Rodriguez/Tarantino double-bill, which was so popular that it spawned a full movie.

Which was so popular if spawned a sequel.

This is Robert Rodriguez at his censor-baiting, Mexploitation best. machine gun "Double D" underwear, triple-bladed machetes, death by helicopter rotor, bullet-proof death cars......

If you like that sort of thing you'll love it. I do and I did.

My mum would hate it.

Well you can't beat a bit of Mexploitation - and Robert Rodriguez certainly agrees with this sentiment. Machete Kills is the second in a burgeoning franchise of exploitation movies starring the granite-faced Danny Trejo as the fearsome blade-wielding ex-federale of the title; Trejo is joined by an eclectic range of actors and actresses here, many of whom also starred in the film's predecessor: Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba and Tom Savini all reappear, whilst faded silver screen luminaries such as Mel Gibson and Cuba Gooding-Junior also pop up - alongside the bizarrely casted Lady Gaga, Charlie Sheen as the straight-talking US president, and Antonio Banderas.
The movie itself is typically over-the-top, often ludicrously so, with the indestructible Machete implausibly bedding beautiful women when he gets a break from slicing heads off. Even so, the film is huge escapist fun, and the trailers for the will it/won't it actually be made third movie - the brilliantly titled `Machete Kills Again - In Space', certainly whetted my appetite for further anarchic thrills and belly laughs.

Just saw MaCHete Kills at cinema & was impressed/entertained with Rodriquez' follow up to the 1st MaCHete film...Danny Trejo is perfect in his role as the serious, craggy faced knife chucker, slicing anything & everything in his path...This time MaCHete is taken off death row & enlisted by the US President to protect the USA from a crazy Mexican cartel Boss threatening destruction with missiles... Lot's of action, lol moments & a stellar cast make it a fun joyride....Mel Gibson,Sofia Vergara(along with her brazier shooting machine guns),the gorgeous Amber Heard,Antonia Banderas,et al a brilliant job in their roles as either friend or foe...Leave ur brain at the door & enjoy...A movie not to be taken too seriously....but it's certainly serious entertainment :D 7/10 for me...

Sure, the movie is not that realistic, has kind of comedy elements in it. But it was fun, action packed, sexy! I liked it as much as I liked the first part. Can't understand some bad reviews that are around. And Mel Gibson is excellent!

Kinda' glad this is a fantasy adventure ( wouldn't wanna' meet this character
for real )
'Machete Cortez' is reluctantly recruited by the U.S President to advert the
threat posed by Mexico based revolutionary oddball 'Mendez'
The task, impossible for a mere mortal.
We set off on an action-packed roller-coaster ride, beautiful and dangerous
women, bullets flying, and blade swinging journey.
The early part of the mission......lets say......goes well, however the stakes
are raised when a multi-million dollar bounty is placed on 'Machete's'
prisoner 'Mendez's' head.
And so the story continues.............
Many well known faces among the cast list including the likes of ...'Cuba
Gooding' 'Mel Gibson' 'Lady Gaga' and 'Antonio Banderas' name
just a few.
This is a tongue-in-cheek blood-letting, action packed fest.
If you watched and enjoyed the first 'Machete' movie, you'll love this for sure.
Special features:-
* If 'Carlos Estevez' was president.
* Six degrees of 'Robert Rodrigues'
* Cast and crew interviews.

Machete Kills despite some poor reviews ends up being better than the original. I found the original though entertaining enough, quite jarring and too pedantic. But Kills gets it right for the most part. Of course it is utterly unbeievable and very out there. None of it really makes sense, and you're just expecting bugs bunny or roadrunner to turn up at one point. It's silly, irrelevant, but it's entertaining, it really is.

Of course it helps when you can bring in Mel Gibson who hams it up perfectly in his first ever role as a villain. There are quite a few cameo pieces, namely by Walter Goggings, Cuba Gooding (remember him?), Lady Gaga and Antonio Banderous.

Machete Kills is mental no doubt about it- and personally I was not looking forward to the film, but save for a lethargic final twenty minutes, the film puts on screen what its primary intention was to do. And that's why it suceeds. There are a few unlikeable characters, one being surprisingly the ever reliable Amber Heard, but for every one there are two that give you a smile, hey Tom Savini makes an appearance so not all can be bad. This sequel is also quite funny, unlike the original that seemed to try too hard and fail.

So, the film is REALLY OUT THERE, and yes you must be able to suspend belief, if not you will want to switch off before opening credits role.

Certaintly a very complex movie for a journalist to review. Give it one star and look silly, as the film knows what it is doing- give it classic marks and perhaps you're being too generous. Machete Kills deserves 4 stars.

Entertaining tongue-in-cheek follow-up to Machete with Danny Trejo's dead-pan lead stealing the film and good turns from Antonio Banderas and Mel Gibson among others.

The cast does make up for the star it loses who said lady gaga couldn't act to save her life! playing multiple personalities as the ruthless chameleon backed up by big name face changing hitters like cuba gooding jr and antonio banderas.

And Carlos estevez putting in a funny and good turn as the marajuana legalizing twitter account hating president of the USA.
where he puts his policies forward in the bonus segments of the film if he became president!

But it does lose a star for the near ending of the film which ripped off star wars since luke skywalkers land speeder makes a reaappearence as a three wheeled reliant robin transporting machete and of course mel gibson playing a bond like baddie round his arms and space department.

having seen the trailer for the third installment of machete im hoping its not a damp squib to end the trilogy since most of the effects that looks like its been borrowed from THE BEAST IN SPACE and lacks the grindhouse feel that made the first film a hit in the first place.
