4.0 out of 5 stars Rick Nelson Imperial Sessions worth buying but could have been better
Pros: About a good 45 mins of unreleased material/Great sound quality/Interesting studio chatter
Cons: Advertises an unreleased song (Cold War) which is actually just an instrumental with no Rick on it. No need to lie to us especial since there is enough good material to make the buy worthwhile. Another con would be all the extra instumentals of other songs added to...

1.0 out of 5 stars The fans do deserve to hear Rick's out-takes but it needs to be mixed to the best possible standard
This CD seems to be a bootleg, a complete con. The so-called, unreleased Cold War track has nothing to do with Rick, or his musicians, eg., James Burton, This stuff hopefully will soon be released 'officially', so as not to fleece Rick's many fans. The fans do deserve to hear Rick's out-takes but it needs to be mixed to the best possible standard! Not in this cheap, and I...

4.0 out of 5 stars Rick Nelson Imperial Sessions worth buying but could have been better, 14 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Imperial Recording Sessions 1957-1960 (Audio CD)
Pros: About a good 45 mins of unreleased material/Great sound quality/Interesting studio chatter
Cons: Advertises an unreleased song (Cold War) which is actually just an instrumental with no Rick on it. No need to lie to us especial since there is enough good material to make the buy worthwhile. Another con would be all the extra instumentals of other songs added to fill up the disc but not revealed in the track listing.
Overall, I gave it 4 stars because the unreleased material is excellent and the price is reasonable for what you're getting. Would I buy it again based on what I know now? The answer is Yes with no hesitation.
Hope there are more volumes to come.
Lucio

5.0 out of 5 stars Rockin' with Ricky, 12 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Imperial Recording Sessions 1957-1960 (Audio CD)
This is a great CD as you unreleased Ricky from his rockin' days, with great playing from the backing band featuring James Burton and James Kirkland. It is great to here the recordings develop and the A & R man/Ricky making suggestions for changes to he arrangements . My only criticism is that the pics on the cover and disc are quite badly printed and there is next to nothing in terms of a booklet. However this is minor as its all about the music.

We don't get filler recordings so everything on here won't already be in your collection.

1.0 out of 5 stars The fans do deserve to hear Rick's out-takes but it needs to be mixed to the best possible standard, 29 Sept. 2014
This review is from: The Imperial Recording Sessions 1957-1960 (Audio CD)
This CD seems to be a bootleg, a complete con. The so-called, unreleased Cold War track has nothing to do with Rick, or his musicians, eg., James Burton, This stuff hopefully will soon be released 'officially', so as not to fleece Rick's many fans. The fans do deserve to hear Rick's out-takes but it needs to be mixed to the best possible standard! Not in this cheap, and I may add, nasty style!
The whole thing is an insult both to Rick and his supporters. When properly released these 'Unreleased Sessions' will have a complete booklet explaining all.
Great CD cover, though! A shot taken at a live Warner Brothers studio session.

This is an interesting thing for collectors but it's streching the curiosity of fans by advertising a previously unknown and unreleased song named "Cold War" which turns out to be purely instrumental.

For Ricky Nelson fans only (of which I am one) but the so called unissued track has no vocal but is merely a backing track.

Ricky Nelson was probably on 2nd to Elvis in producing tremendous recordings time after time.
This CD has him in the studio doing alternate takes of tracks that were larer re-recorded for issue
