This review is from: The 1960 British Hit Parade The B Sides Pt. 1 (Audio CD)
'1960' This was at the time when I, myself, like many of you I'm sure
started building our 'Vinyl' collections, in previous reviews I've
mentioned, because we were just starting-out, we did play both 'A' and
'B' tracks on our 45's.
Many of the numbers on board will no doubt be a stranger to us as we play
the 4 CD 'B-Side compilation, however there are, and will be some very
familiar sounds from the many favourite artists of the day.
Looking at the play-list therw are so many names that those of us that
'lived' the era will; know for sure.
Some of the greats on disc one...'Freddie Cannon'...'The Drifter's'...
'The Crickets'...'Ricky Nelson'...'Cliff'...'Bobby Darin'...'Nat King Cole'
and..'The Everly's'...an example of the great artists of the day...on disc
two...'Elvis'...'Frank Ifield'...'Perry Como'...'Marty Wilde'...'Billy Fury'
'Gene Vincent'...and...'Chet Atkins'...again just a few of the names we all
remember....on disc three...'Connie Francis'...'Joe Brown and the Bruvvers'
'Lonnie Donegan'...'Shirley Bassey'...Paul Anka'...and...'Frank Sinatra'...
on disc four....'Neil Sadaka'...'Michael Holliday'...'Johnny Preston'...
'Duane Eddy'...'John Barry and his Orchestra'...'Alma Cogan'...and...'Eddie
Cochran'........names many will surely remember.
As you play this compilation, if like myself you were just starting-out back
then, you'll recognise quite a few numbers on board, obviously you'll pick up
on...'Cliff' --'Don't be Mad at Me'...'Johnny Mathis' --'The Story of our Love'
'Emile Ford' --'That Lucky old Sun'...'Anthony Newley' --'Girls were made to
Love and Kiss'...'The Everly's' --'Since You Broke my Heart'...'Frank Ifield'
--'Nobody Else But You'...'Billy Fury'..How I Cried'...'The Everley's' --
'Always it's You'...'Shirley Bassey' --'The Party's Over'...'Eddie Cochran'
--'Cut Across Shorty'...and a number that took me a very long time to find...
'The Cricket's' --'Deborah' (named my 2nd because of that song)....I've just
highlighted one or two of the tracks that I recognised instantly, there are
many, many more that will surely be familier among the '111' on-board,
(inside, the booklet reminds us of the 'A' sides the songs on-board were
associated with)
