Hough's empathy for Brahms comes shining through in these performances. He is technically flawless, combining muscularity and gentle lyricism. All Brahmsians will rejoice at the new Hough and Barry Douglas releases.

I attended a wonderful performance of the 1st concerto given by last year by Stephen Hough, and in comparison this recording does not disappoint. Coupled with the 2nd, it is a disk that I shall enjoy returning to many times.

Brilliant performances, beautifully recorded.
If like me you love the two Brahms concertos, , you will enjoy these recordings.

There is much to like about this recording, which is growing on me. However, I had some reservations compared with Freire's recording which is very dramatic and may be a safer recommendation. I have a new amp and want to hear the Hough version through this before coming to a final conclusion - but certainly 4 1/2 stars!
