Wow. The TV show is good night-time soap. I watch it...I'll admit it. The twists and turns make me want to see what the heck will happen next. That said, the music is outstanding and this CD collection will have you discovering great songs with every listen. I'm not what you would call a country music fan. The lyrics and topics tend to be rife with cliche after cliche. This collection has made me understand that country music is much more diverse that the formula trite that you hear on North American radio. Whoever picks the music for this TV show deserves an Emmy. These are great songs. The production fantastic. The singing is beautiful. In this day and age where you buy songs and not albums for the most part makes sense. As a rule, most albums have one or two songs worth listening to so people are buying songs not albums. Well this collection is an exception. This IS one great album of music.

Heard a song on Season One? It's on here! Great collection from one of the best tv soundtracks in years.

Brill album - though would be a bit miffed if I had bought volume 1 and 2. If you liked the show you'll love this

I think 4 stars more appropriate for this soundtrack album than 5, because the songs lose some of their impact without the context in the television drama.

However, with about 65 tracks this is good value, there are no dud songs or performances and several are brilliant, including:

Sam Palladio’s two versions of ‘Shine’
‘Ho Hey’ by Lemon & Maisy Stella (the two talented sisters who play the Rayner James’s daughters)
More than one of Clare Bowen (‘Scarlet’s) songs
and possibly Hayden Panettiere (Juliette Barnes’) ‘Nothing in this World Can Ever Break my Heart Again’, which was played over the end of Season 1 as a series of dramatic events befell various characters.

While the songs are all ‘Country’ music, the song writers give them different styles for the different characters e.g. Hayden Panettiere / Juliette Barnes as the rising younger singer, has more lively but superficial, pop influenced songs especially early in the series, compared to the older, more traditional Country star Connie Britton/ Rayner James whose position she threatens.

Even if modern technology allows sound recordings to be enhanced, I am amazed at how many of those in this series who are otherwise known as actors do so well as singers. I do not know if they all already had trained singing ability that for some reason producers had always overlooked before. The Americans in the cast like Hayden Panettiere and several others are really good, but additional credit must be due to those who are not American but manage both to speak and sing convincingly in a Southern USA accent, such as Clare Bowen (really an Australian) as Scarlett and Sam Palladio (British).

However, as I have said, while it is good sometimes to be able to hear the songs just as music, seen in the television series they have greater impact. This is partly from the visual spectacle of the characters performing the songs but even more importantly, in ‘Nashville’, songs are not interludes between the acting scenes; they are part of the story. Often they gain emotional resonance because we know what the success of the performance means to the character’s career, or what they have to cope with in their life even as they go on stage to sing, or the songs indirectly comment on the story. E.g. when the mostly backing guitarist, Charles Esten (‘Deacon’) sings ‘If you know what’s good for you you’ll have to let her go, or you’ll end up next to me in her side show’ this surely comments on his character’s personal and professional relationship with the lead singer Rayner James.

For fans of Connie Britton playing ‘Rayner James’, do try the series ‘Friday Night Lights’ in which she also appeared.

Good music. I find this extremely easy to listen to and it is a good soundtrack when you need to lower your stress levels, want a better mood, and need to concentrate. Would also recommend the series if you haven't watched it. Good stories. Interesting characters. As the series progresses the characters and stories develop. I particularly really enjoy Claire Bowen's voice and performances.

My boxed set arrived today, so I haven't had time to listen to all of it as yet. That being said, I couldn't wait so popped it onto the car CD player as I went shopping and found myself wishing the shops were not so close. What I have heard is great quality....there is even a music video of Telescope thrown in!! The 4 CD's come in a box with a booklet giving all the info on who wrote the songs, performed them, producers etc., all stuff I love. Nice pics in the booklet from the series (not heaps, just decorating the pages, but better than nothing). Certainly great value and a set I can see myself listening to often.

Yes, like lots of other reviews on here, I too purchased volume 1 and 2 separately before this Complete Collection came out so I was in two minds whether to bother. I am so pleased I did. In fact, disc 4 the second of the bonus tracks cds has been on a loop in my car for months now and disc 3 isn't far behind with one or two fantastic ones that I am amazed were left off the main volumes. I only hope that the producers realise that everyone is now going to be waiting for a Season 2 - The Complete Collection to come out before buying and still release one, despite the inevitable lower sales figures of the separate discs because that's what everyone is waiting for!

So many good songs in this 4 disc set. My personal favourites in no particular order are: "I will fall", "Fade into you", "If I didn't know better", "When the right one comes along", "Shine", "Telescope" and "Undermine". I've listened to these all on repeat for a really long time after first hearing them on the show. I love Sam Palladio & Clare Bowen's voices together - they really make magic when they duet. ♥

Great for lovers of country music, for fans of the show Nashville, or even for people who are open-minded in their tastes and just like good music! :D

What a great album I have been watching the series and not bought anything ' country' before but there isn't 1 track that I wanted to fast forward. There are so many different artistes and voices and the backing music is worth listening to as well. Great value too.
