This review is from: LEGO The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 79013: Lake-Town Chase (Toy)
Lake-Town Chase appears in the second Hobbit movie "Desolation of Smaug" and makes a really good piece for any Tolkien (books and/or films) fan.

You receive 5 mini-figures:

- Bilbo Baggins - 2 faced - love the torso printing (jacket, waistcoat, neckerchief) BUT same as in Riddles and Barrel Escape - comes with "sting" and the "one ring" (though you get a couple of spares in the bag);

- * Thorin Oakenshield - 2 faced - good torso printing (blue shirt and belt) printing is different to "Attack of the Wargs" set - comes with a sword;

- ** Bard the Bowman - 2 faced - excellent front torso printing which carries down onto the legs - comes a bow and (fixed) arrow;

- ** Master of Lake-Town - 2 faced - outstanding printing on front of torso which carries on down the legs - good printing on back of torso - comes with 2 colour cloak (red on inside and purple on outside) - I like the hat/hairpiece - comes with "golden" key - played by Stephen Fry in the film - this master looks a lot cleaner than Mr Fry did;

- ** Lake-Town Guard - single face - fantastic printing on front torso which extends down into the legs and round the back of the torso - great hair/hat piece - comes with spear/halberd.

.
* - first appearance with this different design of printing
** - first appearance of these mini-figures in a Lego set
.

The Boat - made from 2 smaller boats joined in the centre with a flat plate brick underneath and a shield each side. There is a catapult with black cylindrical brick ammunition. On the mast is a hanging lantern. There is a "rope" thread that goes from the front point of the boat over the top of the mast and down to the point at the other end and I would recommend that you try to make it as tight as possible because it looks a little strange if it is anyway slack.

At the other end of the boat is a large barrel, big enough for Thorin to hide in.

I had a little snigger when I saw the warning on the box "boat does not float"!

.
The "Weapon's Room" build has a wall where the little barrel is that flips up to reveal Bilbo's hiding place. Being the armoury it comes with 3 weapons - 2 swords and a mace.

.
The "jail" looks really good when completed, with the prison beneath and living quarters above and balcony with another catapult. There is a lever on the prison part which can be used to help the prisoner (Bilbo or Thorin - your choice) break out of jail.

.
The 2 buildings can be connected by the "ladder" bridge. There are white "snow" bricks with both of the buildings.

.
As a total build it is very nice to look at and at present is adding a little extra to the Christmas sets just to make them a little different to the specific Christmas sets, but it will make a great addition to my story progression shelves after Christmas.

The build has 470 pieces and a RRP (Lego web shop) price of 49.99 making it a reasonable 10.63 pence per piece. You get 2 instruction books and 4 numbered bags, the mast and stickers.

The mini-figures are very nice; the boat is bigger than I thought it would be; the armoury is a good addition and I like the way that the prison and armoury can be "joined" by the ladder/bridge.

This is one of my favourite Hobbit builds.

My son is a big lego fan and was thrilled with this set. It is the high quality you expect from lego with their usual clear instructions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Lake-Town, folks! Beware of the Master. He may be watching YOU!, 20 Dec 2013

I think that this set is excellent because you get five minifigures. You get Bilbo Baggins (Sherlock Holmes's assistant Doctor John Watson aka Martin Freeman, Thorin Oakenshield - the name of the actor is called Richard Armitage because in the past he played the Sheriff of Nottingham's tough deputy Guy of Gisborne in the BBC folklore drama of Robin Hood in 2006 until 2009.
He played former agent Lucas North in the BBC spy drama of Spooks series seven, eight and nine in 2008 until 2010. There is a Lake-Town guard in the set and there is Bard the Bowman as played by the Welsh BBC the Great Train Robbery actor Luke Evans.
In the set you do get the Master of Lake-Town minifigure.
In the film, he is performed by the BBC Two QI host Stephen Fry because I think that as an actor he is natural in his performance.
So, overall this is a fantastic LEGO set, and I would really recommend it to anyone who is interested in LEGO or even someone who starting their new collection of LEGO.
Also, the Hobbit: the Desolation of Smaug film is out now on DVD and Blu-ray for Easter 2014, everyone.
I suggest that you purchase your copy in the shops such as Sainsbury's, Morrisons, HMV or in ASDA.
Again, if you don't have time, I suggest that you order and purchase the Blu-ray Limited Edition Steelbook from Amazon.co.uk.
So, those are my overall opinions for you, folks. Five stars all round!!! Bye for now! From Richard Hill
