Getting your hands on a new CD by your favourite band produces a strange mixture of anticipation and apprehension. Anticipation that you are sure it's going to be awesome, apprehension that it might not be as good as the last one! And considering that Corvus Corax's last offering was the truly incredible 'Sverker', well, that was going to be hard to follow.
So. Gimlie. Yep, they've done it again. It has all the usual ingredients of a Corvus Corax album: the bagpipes, the drums, the energy. Sverker is still my favourite, but this comes so, so close. If you haven't listened to Corvus Corax yet, you don't know what you're missing.
Hard to pick a 'highlight' when the entire product is so good, but their version of Amon Amarth's 'Twilight of the Thunder God' is incredible. 'Unicornus' is just beautiful. Overall, definitely a triumph.
See this band live if you can: you won't regret it.
