This review is from: A dictionary of English and Welsh surnames, with special American instances (Kindle Edition)
This Kindle version of the Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames has, as it states far too frequently throughout, been digitised by Google and, frankly, is not worth the £1.32 it cost. I know that a secondhand copy of the origianl book is extremely expensive but this is such a poor digitisation for Kindle that I would only recommend buying it if you definitely cannot find a copy in a good reference library. So much of the text is just garbled unreadable strings of random characters that much is totally unusable. Totally unforgiveably for a surname dictionary, many of the surnames being defined are garbled. There are some OK entries so you may like to gamble that the surnames you are interested in have not been corrupted but it will be a complete gamble. The most surprising thing is that they have managed to screw up the word "google" in many of the digitised by messages.
Still, a copy of this book will make you appreciate all the wonderful digitisation that Amazon does for the Kindle.
