5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, light, great detail - you can fit Cokin P series filter holder with a little tweaking, 27 Jan 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Pentax HD DA Limited 15mm F4 ED AL Lens - Black (Camera)
Bought this after being disappointed with 'softness' of images achieved using a Tamron 10-24 zoom on my K5. Crispness in detail achieved with this lens is much improved (I use it for landscapes). Seems happiest when stopped down a little (edges still soften a little when wide open). I had read about issues fitting cokin (or Lee etc.) style filter holders to this lens due to the inbuilt hood on the lens (the retracted hood petals extend just beyond the end of the lens barrel), but these are easily surmounted. I used an 'empty' 49mm screw in filter (i.e. just the threaded ring with the glass removed) to extend the barrel and thread a couple of mm = just enough to enable a P series 49mm cokin adaptor ring to be screwed onto the lens without catching the end of the hood petals.

I found the Hoya economy UV filter ( ) to be perfect for this purpose. It is just the right depth, is threaded on the inside to accept the Cokin adaptor ring (also 49mm) and the glass is held in with a threaded washer hence can easily be removed without damage to it, the all important carrier ring, or you! It's also cheap.

I have not had any issues with vignetting, whilst using the above in conjunction with a Cokin P series wide-angle holder, and graduated filters. Haven't tried with the standard holder (the one that can take several filters at once).
