5.0 out of 5 stars A 4.5 Star Debut
The debut album by London Grammar, If You Wait, has, no pun intended, been well worth the wait. The band spent 18 months writing and recording this album, and that patience really shows. It feels to me like there's a lot of bands that rush to get albums out on a wave of hype, then they're rather disappointing, but this is not the case here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fresh but needs more depth
London Grammar are clearly talented but they feel like a band that has come on the scene with just a tad too little material. The album feel like it was forced for commercial reasons rather than held back until there were better and more diverse selections to make in terms of tracks. Enjoyable - but I would like to see them take their time with the next album and surprise...

Received it on the release date and still playing all tracks back to back constantly. Vocals are stunning and there is such an atmosphere to the music. Would recommend it to anyone who has an ear for something a little bit different.

A hauntingly beautiful album .Hannah's voice is like a softer, more melodic Florence, without the attitude. An altogether polished, memorable sound.

3.0 out of 5 stars Feedback, 1 Nov 2013

I ordered this item having heard the singles from it. The voice of the lead singer is beautiful and haunting. I am sadly though, disappointed in the album. Even with that beautiful voice, I became bored and even a little irritated after a few tracks. For me, apart from the two very beautiful tracks lifted for single release, the music soon became monotonous.

When an album is mentioned as a Mercury nominee before it is released you know that it is either incredibly hyped up or something special. London Grammar's debut is both. This three piece have taken their time after their youtube success to release an album of some scope and substance. Lead singer Hannah Reid certainly sounds like Florence Welch and the minimalist drums, piano and strings support that voice but allow it to take centre stage. The songs are simple with choruses that hook you and hang around long after they finish.

Shyer is a good example of a simple song lent extra emotional punch by the arrangement and voice. You know its going to be on The Voice or X Factor soon. It builds from the simple arrangement into a layered chorus that allows Reid to really showcase her voice. Wasting My Years stands out as the epic ballad which has another slow build and yet flourishes into a stomping number that captures your tapping feet as much as your feelings. It a mix between Florence on Lungs and Coldplay's Clocks with its vocal and arrangement. The quieter Sights is a powerful number which sounds a plaintive as any female driven number has for many years. Flickers sounds like an updated Fleetwood Mac number from the Rumours era in its drum pattern and allowance for a band to dance to the tune of a strong female voice.

When you finish listening to this you are left with the feeling that you have listened to an album that will soon get lots of airplay. The songs are here, the voice is here and with enough exposure this could be huge. London Grammars debut is a real statement of intent. Simple songs, simple arrangements, an exceptionally powerful lead vocal and enough originality to separate it from other releases this might just be the start of something huge.
