3.0 out of 5 stars Better dead than a ted
Loved the interviews with the band members, but a lot of the footage has come from other punk films. With punk films it would be nice to interview some of old punks. The punk scene to some was 1976 to 1977. But many of the old punk bands are still going strong now. Its a passion. Punk rock changed many people. It wasnt just a faze.
The video is worth watching. But...

i went to the press screening of this and its absolutely brilliant whether you're a fan of punk or not. Its a carefully and well crafted documentary that show just how important the little shop on the Kings Road was to the legacy of punk. Malcolm's fashion idealism had a major major part in the whole ethos of the movement and the documentary cleverly lets the brilliant Jon savage explain the inner workings of the punk movement. Love it. 11 out of 10, the last word on punk.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant unseen story, 5 Nov. 2013
This review is from: Punk '76 [DVD] (DVD)
The film's angle is how the fashion of punk was as important as the bands themselves, having never really thought about that, the film is really enlightening in arguing the prevailing influence of McClaren and Westwood, and it all rings true. I truly have a different perspective on the whole scene and history of the time.

4.0 out of 5 stars London Calling, 27 May 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Punk '76 [DVD] (DVD)
This film shows the birth of the UK Punk movement, and is makes an fine complementary DVD to Don Letts 2006 documentary Punk Attitude, which had a US bias. However, it is fairly London Centric. While it does make reference to the Manchester Scene, it is almost an afterthought. Nevertheless, this film should act as a pointer for newcomers to punk, as well as a reminder to us old timers of how vital and exciting, as well as engaging punk was first time around.
An should also remind us all that the rise of the New Right in politics these days can and must be challenged.

Bought this on on the strength of some of the contributors...people like Marco (No merrick terry-lee gary tibbs or yours truly) Wobble, Steve Severin and Tony James.....also Gene October and Charlie (keep rockin) Harper.
Because these guys were there....absolutely at the heart of what was going on...Alan Jones who worked in Sex and got arrested for wearing one of Malc and Vivs T Shirts (2 Cowboy)
Not the usual stuff in other docs...yes more about the fashion aspect which depending on your opinion was just as important as the music.
Definitely one for the punk enthusiast...possibly people interested in cult fashion
I recently came across Various Artists. - She's A Punk Rocker [DVD] [2010] Which is also a good watch !!!

Great Stuff.....
