4.0 out of 5 stars Southern Rock
Got into these guys after listening to a track on the latest Classic Rock mag free CD.
There are some seriously good tracks on this album.
Six ways to Sunday, Leave a Scar, Crimson Moon and (especially) Shakin Hands with the Holy Ghost really rock.
I have also listened to their previous outings Little Piece of Dixie and Bad Luck ain't no Crime - and these...

A pale imitation of southern rock. Stale and derivative. Sounds muddy and the instruments indistinct, Songs are bland in words and music. Lynyrd Skynyrd wannabees.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow - a must buy, 20 Feb 2014
This review is from: The Whippoorwill [3 bonus track] (Audio CD)
Where have these guys been for the last 10 years ? I recently discovered their stuff and was mightily impressed. There will be inevitable comparisons, with Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, ZZ Top et al. Any comparison will be merely a compliment because these guys are unique and supremely talented in their own right. Since buying the album, I haven't listened to anything else in the car. There isn't a bad song on the album. Crucially, the it demonstrates the phenomenal songwriting talent and vocals of Charlie Starr and the diversity in music that these fellas deliver. Classic southern rock. No tricks, no gimmicks, no effects - pure musical talent. From the rock n roll style of "shaking hands with the holy ghost", the intensity of the title track "Whippoorwill", the sing along country influenced "6 ways" and the honest ballard of "one horse town", this album leaves you waiting in exited anticipation for the next track. Best album of the year so far - buy it. Looking forward to seeing them live in the UK next month. Good job guys.

Along with the Cadillac 3 and in a similar vein to ZZ Top, Lynrd Skynard these add a dash of country, good mix of fast and slow tracks.
Looking forward to the next album

Absolutely fan-bloody-tastic from the opening seconds through to the very end fade out. This band, like their name, are smokin'.
The album bursts upon you with the brilliant Six Steps To Sunday - the drum and bass driving this along at an irresistible pace before the guitar breaks through and the singer tells us he's gonna have his woman so turned on she'll be "talking in tongues."!! Next up is Pretty Little Lies. In the old days of proper singles charts both these songs would have been smash hits. Throughout there are great sharp lyrics and the terrific pace and feel to the album means it gets better and better as you work your way through it. While the comparisons to Lynrd Skynrd are predictable and in some ways inevitable, this lot encompass all the best of Southern Rock, from the Allman Brothers through to ZZ Top and everything inbetween while being themselves. In years to come we'll be saying about some new band that they sound a bit like Blackberry Smoke. These guys even look like a proper rock band. Love it - and you will too.

Great Album.

A bit more laid back and polished production than Up In Smoke which I feel is a slightly stronger album hence the 4 stars.

Definitely worth getting if you like Southern Rock or like Lynyrd Skynyrd and stuff like that.

A great example of the Southern Rock revival - akin to Lynyrd Skynyrd, some really foot stomping catchy tunes. Buy now, you won't be disappointed.
