It just felt like a diluted addition and finale to the main series of what had otherwise been an enjoyable read. Couldnt waiit to finish it for all the wrong the reasons. Very disappointed.

I got all of the five available books to go on holiday with because they were cheap and because they sounded epic. They are all very long books but, to date, I've read the first three and I haven't been able to wait for the next one. The story (so far) is based across the whole of Eurasia and is such brilliantly adept story which mingles-in the machinations of the court of the mongols with the machinations of the Catholic church, with the exploits of Templar-like fighters. I've found the books truly interesting, well-written and well worth paying the full price for. Lucky me!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Part five of probably more than five, 8 Sep 2014

if you are reading this book looking for an ending or conclusion to the saga then you will be disappointed but it is a novel take on the Grail quest / Cathars story-lines that have been around in recent years and it gives a real feel for a pointless little war. It well written and focuses mainly on Ocryhoe the street urchin from Rome in book three and develops her in to a great character.

Actually this is probably the best book in the saga.

I thoroughly enjoyed this side story to the Mongoliad series. It would also appeal to those who enjoy the history of the Catharsis.

All five books in the series have been, in my view, good value for money with a story that is well told and holds together over the whole series of books that make up the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars best of the series, 9 April 2014

Best book of a consistently good series of novels, the one author managing a thrilling page turner that I read in four hours. Haven't noticed this author before in the list of credits, but she writes well, plots clearly and has developed the characters brilliantly.

Forces of light and darkness converge in Cathar country in search of the Grail. Our usual heroes - Raphael, Percival and Occyhroe almost come a cropper when the pope, Sinibaldo Fieschi himself, descends on Montsegur

A great read that digs deeper into a number of the characters who were skimmed over in earlier books and throws some really good curveballs into the mix
