Have been a metal fan on and off for 30 years, but admittedly there are big gaps in my knowledge. So when writers talk about Mercyful Fate, I recognise the name as a classic band but have not a clue what that means. So I went in with fresh ears with this one. Been listening to it non stop since I bought it. It's winning plaudits in the metal press but to my ears there is a hefty slab of Goth in the sound. And the singer at times is a dead ringer for Ian McCulloch. Some great riffs and choruses, I just love this album. It sounds old school but with a modern edge. Pallid Hands edges it as top track.
