5.0 out of 5 stars Spirit of the Victorian age, 29 Aug. 2013
This review is from: The Best of the Strand Magazine, Volume II (Kindle Edition)
This Victorian Magazine, which first introduced the world to Sherlock Holmes, is now available for ereaders. It really gives a compelling flavour of Victorian England, with the short stories addressing various social issues (morphine addiction, women's roles etc) and the accounts of imperial triumphs, crime statistics, and the discovery of radium. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in Victorian literature or the Victorian age.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone, 29 Aug. 2013
This review is from: The Best of the Strand Magazine, Volume II (Kindle Edition)
This collection of short stories and non-fiction truly has something for everyone. Alongside crime stories (even an appearance from Sherlock by Arthur Conan Doyle), there's various accounts of paranormal activity, political sketches, an interview with Pierre Curie for science enthusiasts and the history of cricket for sport fans. There is such a wide range of subjects that there's sure to be something to pique everybody's interest.
