This is what I thought was the complete collection of the boy's recorded output from their 76-77 era. After a few plays and reading the book that comes with it (great, by the way), I had a feeling that something wasn't quite right-and then it dawned on me. For some reason, the 'superior to the album' 7" version of Stretcher Case is not on it, even though the b-side 'Sick of Being Sick' has been included in this version and 2 other versions - Peel session and 'BBC In Concert' recording. The only reason I can think this has happened is maybe it has something to do with disc space. I would much preferred if maybe the John Peel session version had been omitted instead or maybe another song -any of the 3 muffled demo's that kick off side one! Putting this major (minor?)gripe aside, it is a great- but not quite complete- package of their early work and i'm still glad I bought it and at a great price too, but to any perfectionists out there, then this release has a serious flaw.

The Damned were the first punk band to do most things. Sign a record deal, release a single, tour America and (ahem!) split up. Well 30 years on they have split up and reformed under many different guises and are still going strong. Anyone who saw them on their recent tour will testify that. But here is the first instalment of their career with the 2 Stiff albums. All the gems are here "New Rose", "I Fall", "Neat Neat Neat", the list goes on, Tracks from various sessions and In concert recordings, also a bonus disc of a Live gig so you can experience the madness of a Damned show. A rather splendid booklet completes the package. If you want to hear the fury of Britains 1st punk band then this is the set for you. Go on;- Play it at your sister! and your Mum too!

....Everything you need from this period of their career really. The debut album, the 1st 2 Peel Sessions, BBC In Concert stuff, b-sides....Great book too (it can replace your dog-eared Light At The End Of The Tunnel biography).
What surprises is how well the guitar of Brian James stands up; paired with the demented drumming of Scabies it still sounds more primal & urgent, more rock'n'roll, than most bands today.
....Music For Pleasure still sucks though....
