5.0 out of 5 stars The most captivating book I have picked up in a long time!
It took just a day to read this book - I could not put it down. To read about such cruelty and then to tuck my children in a warm bed at night having filled their bellies with a hearty meal - leaves one wondering what on earth was going through these people's minds when they carried out such evil?

Highly recommended, a book written with such courage. Well done...

1.0 out of 5 stars Can't believe
Can't believe the raf turned a blind eye to this cruelty and abuse even in the 50s . The author should be very proud of the achievements she has made considering the life she had but the book was very repetitive and not well written. Would not recommend this book .

A really good book makes you wonder how people can be so wicked
and a brave person to pull through such an ordeal.

The title of this book grabbed my attention and I just had to read it, from the start I couldn't put it down.

I don't understand how parents can cause their children so much pain and show them nothing but hate and violence. This book is not for the faint hearted, as it is emotionally charged from the start.

2.0 out of 5 stars A sad rant, 26 May 2014

You can't help but feel for this woman, the loss of a childhood at the hands of her pathetic parents but it really is just a long monologue of repetitive ranting, such a shame because beneath all the repetition is a good story. I grew up in the British Army and was in Aden in 1960 -62, she brought back some happy memories, so i thank her for that. I was determined to read to the end although at times i began to wonder if it would be worth it. The need to convey on every page of how often she was beaten actually tends to weaken the story but understandable given the experiences.

Wouldn't recommend it .lacked description of events places and feelings. It contained too many repeated phrases. whilst I have sympathy most of the book contains generalisations.

The story was just awful. Very believable, I was a victim myself, being a SNCO's wife- the establishment did not have any care's for the wife or children, only their own. My main problem was- repetiion throughout the book. Thank goodness those three girls did well for them selves.
