5.0 out of 5 stars School Disco Revival
I loved this CD set. I listen to it every day in the car during my long commute and it transports me back to School days and school discos. I have had other 70s CD sets before but this set includes some really good tracks - Crazy Horses by the Osmonds and Blockbuster by Sweet - which when they come on have me turning up full volume and rocking along. Certainly helps to...

Some are later remixes or re-recordings - "Cuba", "I Love The Nightlife", "Gonna Get Along Without You Now", "Fool (If You Think It's Over"), but then you never get the 1978 version anywhere, "Misty", "I'm On Fire", which does not feature Tina Charles on vocals and "Native New Yorker".

I bought this because a previous reviewer had said they were all the originals. They are not and I don't know why the label have done that, considering most of the songs actually are the originals.

"Get Up And Boogie" is such a bad recording that there is barely any treble on it at all.

So I'm going to be mean and give it a generous three stars. It should have stated that there are re-recordings on this. I suppose I could return it, but it's too much bother.

Buying 100 songs from the seventies at around '7p' each...even if
you don't like all the songs on-board, if you, like me were listening
to the music back then, there's gonna' be a bucket full of songs
included that you do like, surely, it's a bargain.
Some of the tracks that caught my eye on board.....disc one.....
'The Jackson's' --'ABC'...'Rose Royce' --'Car Wash'...'Anita Ward'
--'Ring my Bell'...'The Real Thing' --'Can you Feel the Force'....
'The Temptations' --'Papa was a Rolling Stone'...and...'Yvonne Elliman'
--'If I Can't Have You' ...just a few memories from disc one, on disc two
...'The Boomtown Rats' --'I Don't Like Mondays'...'Madness' --'My Girl'
...'Thin Lizzy' --'The Boys are Back in Town'...'Sweet' --'Blockbuster'
...'Status Quo' --'Down Down'...'The Buggles' --'Video Killed The Radio Star'
..'Rachel Sweet' --'B.A.B.Y'...and...'Nazereth' --'Love Hurts'(it doesn't
matter how many versions I hear of 'Love Hurts' great song, love all versions
I've heard down the years....again just a few tracks that caught my eye among
many on disc Two...on disc three...'Kool and the Gang' --'Ladies Night'...
'Earth Wind and Fire' --'Boogie Wonderland'...'Bacarra' --'Yes Sir I can Boogie'
'Donna Summer' --'I Feel Love'...Gloria Gaynor' --'I Will Survive'...Leo
Sayer'...'Thunder in my Heart'...and...'Peaches and Herb' --'Shake your Groove
Thing'....just one or two highlights on disc three....on disc four...10cc' --
'Dreadlock Holiday'...'Mungo Jerry' --'In the Summertime'...'Smokey Robinson
and the Miracles' --'Tears of a Clown'...'New Seekers' --'You won't find another
Fool like Me' as well as 'I'd Like To Teach the World to Sing' (the latter of the
two 'New Seekers' songs started life as a 'Coca-Cola Add' becoming a number '1'
single for the group)...'Mott the Hoople' --'All The Young Dudes'...and...'Chris
Rea' --'Fool if you Think it's Over'....certainly some great sounds on disc four,
...on disc five...'Cher' --'Gypsies Tramps and Thieves'...'Guys and Dolls' --
'You don't Have to Say you Love Me'...'The Sylistics' --'You make Me Feel Brand
New'...'The Three Degrees' --'When Will I See You Again'...'Joe Jackson' --
'Is She Really Going Out With Him ?'...'Dan Hill' --'Sometimes When we Touch'
...'John Travolta'--'Greased Lightning'...and...'The Bellamy Brothers' --
'Let your Love Flow'....again just a few of the great sounds on disc five.
This is a great-value 5-CD compilation (at it's current price of 6.90) full
of great 'Pop' sounds from the magical seventies, certainly worth checking out.
(as an earlier reviewer pointed out there do seem to be a few re-recordings on
board, however overall it is a pretty good 100 number compilation)

3.0 out of 5 stars Good But Too Many Fillers, 22 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Ultimate Collection: 70s School Days (Audio CD)
I bought this CD recently, because I love music from the 1970s. However, I was a bit disappointed with this album. Don't get me wrong, there are a good few classic tracks, but there are also far too many fillers and soul tracks, which I am not a big fan of. I found myself skipping quite a few of these songs, which is always a bad sign to me. I did look at the tracklisting before I bought it, but in the cold light of day it didn't seem as good after. I will consider the songs more carefully before I buy any more CDs of this type in the future and I am sorry, but I cannot recommend this album. Three stars from me, which I feel is an accurate rating and very generous. If you are looking for a good album of 1970s music, then my advice would be to carry on looking.
