4.0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
This story concentrates mostly on Mary, the 'Plain Jane' poor- musician - boring - old - maid Bennett sister, and unfolds her life, making her a far more interesting, talented and gentle creature than she appeared to be in 'Pride and Prejudice', I have to say that some of the American expressions and spellings jarred a little, but this was an enjoyable read, well written...

What will happen now that Mr. Bennett has died? The story concentrates on Mary Bennet which is a good idea, but a lot of the plot is lifted from "Jane Eyre". Did she really think people would not notice? Zero points for originality! The Americanisms are also very irritating. There are now hundreds of Jane Austen spinoffs and sequels and I have not yet found...

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again I loved this book, 15 Aug 2013
Shannon Winslow what can I say. It's just like reading Jane Austen all over again. These books are excellent and I think Jane Austen would be so proud that you have carried them on. I thank you.

Brilliant follow-up to Pemberley. Could not put it down and was sad when I had finished. I hope there will be more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Jane Eyre in a different guise, 18 April 2014

It was a book that I wanted to read, but its not a book that I would necessarily recommend. It was an interesting slant on P&P, using Mary as the main character, but it was almost identical to Jane Eyre. The outcome was sadly predictable, I did chuckle when the author, clearly not an English woman, wrote "Mary walked out the door" "they were mad busy" - how very modern.

The audio book however was well read

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, 30 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Being a life long Jane Austen fan, especially of the wonderful Pride and Prejudice I was interested to see what a so called sequal could possibly be and was quite suprised to find an interesting story which passed a few hours quite nicely. Good imagination regarding the Family at Longbourn - if only Jane herself had been able to write more!.
